I was commenting on both sides. The entire incident could have been avoided if just one side followed protocol. Lt. Osborn should have gotten the hell out of there after the 2nd thump and Cmdr Wang Wei should have maintained minimum safe distance.

And the EEZ is not Chinese territorial waters. You will not find any legal argument to support that view. China only controls the resources within that zone. She has no control over traffic, especially military traffic, in the EEZ.

What would you like to know. It was a Chinese attempt to reverse engineer the MiG-23 that she got from Eygpt.

Technically it was an accident: Wangwei was trying to force the EP-3 away with his bow wave by which the EP-3 pilot could hardly read his meter panel.
but when Wang was bypassing for another round, EP-3 suddenly veered and one of its propeller broke J-8's vertical tail wing into pieces before Wangwei could ever evade.

Functionally, Wangwei never had a chance to evade the deathful strike since he was flying a high speed intercepter which lacks of subsonic maneuverability.

Chronically, they US scouts had been playing the giant-turn alone the EEZ line against the warning Chinese intercepters. the Chinese govt. brought forth a video of the US pilots' jugglery. And I also have to say that Wangwei indeed got too much close when escorting EP-3.

And politicaly, the US govt always takes his routine scout overriding any others' national security concern.

There were so many errors made by both pilots that it was a wonder that anyone survived. Without the black boxes and their data available to the public, we can only speculate what actually went on.

There are bold pilots and there are old pilots but there are no old and bold pilots.

And politicaly, the US govt always takes his routine scout overriding any others' national security concern.

Welcome to the Big Boys Club where even multi-billion dollar submarines crash into each other; bombers make practice runs against carriers and each other land masses; and make interception runs at practicing shooting down those bombers. At a couple of points, we even exchanged fire and downed a few airlines.

Only problem is that the Chinese are new to the game and don't know all the rules, a severe disadvantage.

I could tell you stories how we found our snow was peed upon and how we scared the crap out of the guy on the other side of the Iron Curtain. I know a Canadian Ranger who collected Soviet cap badges ... while on patrol.

For saving his crew through one hell of a piece of flying. By all accounts, the EP-3 crew should be just as dead as the Cmdr. I'm a bellycrawler, not a birdbrain but my birdbrain friends said that the EP-3 should not even have be able to fly.

He was also commended for practicing the correct OPSEC protocols. The Chinese learned nothing from the EP-3 computers.

Still, it galls me that he deliberately flew such a sensitive piece of toy into at least a non-friendly situation after what could be conscrewed as an Act of War.

Let's say that I would have screamed down his throat in public for screwing up ... and then praised him behind closed doors for doing the recovery that he did.

Are you asking about the program history? As far as I know, they've never reached a flying prototype in either program.

How come J-10 doesn't look any Russian, except the engine.

The Russian Design Houses were the ones who enlarged the airframe to accommodate the engine.
