PLA kicks off largest tactical military exercise

:china::pakistan::usflag:

The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) on Tuesday launched its largest-ever tactical military exercise, involving the deployment of about 50,000 heavily-armored troops over thousands of miles to test the PLA's long-distance mobility.

According to the PLA General Staff Headquarters, in charge of organizing the exercise "Stride-2009," one army division from each of the military commands of Shenyang, Lanzhou, Jinan and Guangzhou, will participate in a series of live-fire drills lasting for two months.

Unlike previous annual tactical exercises, the army divisions and their air units will be deployed in unfamiliar areas far from their garrison training bases by civilian rail and air transport.

The division from northeast Shenyang Military Command will be transported to northwest Lanzhou Military Command. Troops from east Jinan Military Command and south Guangzhou Military Command will be exchanged.

In the unprecedented exercise, one of the PLA's major objectives will be to improve its capacity of long-range projection.

The General Staff Headquarters, which have been preparing for the exercise for three months, will coordinate with China's civilian airlines to use passenger and cargo flights to complement Air Force transport.

All heavy weapon systems, such as tanks and infantry fighting vehicles, will be carried by rail, and lightly armored troops deployed to Jinan Military Command will go by China Railway High-speed (CRH) trains traveling at up to 350 kilometers per hour.

Although the PLA's logistic capacities have been greatly improved, it still requires greater coordination and efforts for joint operations and long-range force projection.

I need to mention that these troopers are elite of elite of PLA infantry.

There are mainly four divisions. All of them are of glorious history.

1. Shenyan 115 Division: It won the first grand battle against Japanese army during WWII, even severely under-equipped.

2. Lanzhou division: It was the leading division of renowned New Fourth Army (1 of the core infantry of Red Army) against Japanese in WWII. It earned its name by taking out entire 74 division, one of the best and fully US-equipped advanced infantries of the Nationalist army, during Chinese Civil War, and shot dead its commander Lieutenant General Zhang LinFu - one of Chiang Kai-Chek's famous students and an elite military strategist. Further, the division went into the Korean War and had an outstanding performance during the last battle of the Korean War against the US/UN army.

3. Ji Nan Division - the famous "Tiger Division". On top of each of their uniforms, there is a sign of tiger head. They were the forwarding division during Red Army's Long March and it has never lost a key battle during Chinese Civil War.

4. Guang Zhou Division - historically famous for their strict discipline.

So this is far beyond a normal military exercise, but a warm-up of some of the PLA's elite infantries. Judging by their historical nature, some people in Chinese BBS said that they are likely targeting 100,000 Indian troopers at the border as the hypothetical enemy.

Boy! If they were the real troopers sending forward, I would bet that they would overwhelm that 100,000 like a piece of cake!

PLA really should do something real,so many countries consider china's peaceful rising policy as "soft policy",they just keep taking advantage of it,everyone know it's very hard to take back the disputed land though negotiations

No offence meant but the claim to fame of these formations seem to be actions that took place more than half a century ago.

Is there nothing to show between then & now ?

Tiananmen Square...That was quite 'glorious'.

Tradition is tradition. No kidding here. Although their initial names were made half a century ago, the new generation of recruits, equipments, and corresponding training of these divisions are exceptionally stricht all the way. The major generals who led these divisions are all elite of the infantry, to saveguard their historical honors.

Kent State pales in comparison to Tiananmen. Hardly qualify as a 'massacre'. You might want to look up the definition of the word.

a massacre is a massacre, i'm trying to understand the double standard and american's special self-tolerance about killing people——but it still looks like the pot calls the kettle black.

obvioulsy your knowledge about tian'anmen is too limited to make you think that could be compared to your systematical genocide the native americans and merceless slavery of the black people.
