Pictures: Thousands of apartments built to remove slums, nearing completion

Once completed the housing units will be distributed among the slum dwellers who are living under deplorable conditions. As the government is committed in making Colombo a showcase city free of slums and squatters, the Secretary Defence is assiduously working towards providing these people a better living environment.

The government's commitment is reflected in the transformation that is taking place in Colombo. The Dematagoda housing project which is nearing completion is scheduled to be vested with the shanty dwellers soon.
