KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Monday said it has decided to ground entire ATR fleet until they are cleared for flights after technical checks.

According to a press release issued by PIA’s public affairs division, in view of Civil Aviation Authority’s decision of holding shakedown tests of PIA’s entire ATR fleet, it has been decided to keep all 10 ATR aircraft grounded till they are cleared after thorough examination.

The PIA said temporary suspension of ATR operation will particularly affect PIA’s flight operation to smaller airports like Gwadar, Turbat, Panjgur, Moenjodaro, Zhob, Bahawalpur, DG Khan, Chitral and Gilgit.

Passengers are strongly advised to check status of their flights from PIA Call Center at 111-786-786, it said. –SAMAA

The main issue from inside sources say that lack of proper maintenance and compromise on flight safety standards has caused these accidents.
If this continues in PIA, I am afraid the national carrier will not recover.

this is really odd - Air Botswana and many local carriers use ATR-72 for years; A2-APN etc - no issues. i have flown on it at least 20 times. This appears to be isolated to PIA - is that local carrier or national carrier?
