What's new

PIA converts 5 B777 orders to 8 B787

8 Dreamliner would certainly be a great plus for Pakistan Airlines
Specially if Boeing is willing to enhance our Engineering Service to maintain this newer platform

We do have some 777 already , and the newer 787 really brings a lot of prestige back to PIA
Really with this deal we have officially joined the Dreamliner Club, it was little bit late but we got there

I think on one of the planes 777 platform we were the "First Airline" customer for Boeing
So really great to now be able to also use the 787

PIA got 777's in 2007, they were brand new at the time. The A-330's for Premiere Service are for a particular route. More long haul planes are presently required

The same routes the A-330s are currently flying can also be flown with 777s. In fact, flights to London were already operating with PIA 777s. In 2016, used 777s can be bought, or leased, and refurbished rather inexpensively. PIA already has the pilots and infrastructure to support them. In fact, one of their recently acquired 777 is a used aircraft.

I agree PIA needs more long-haul aircraft, but replacing the A-310 should be a priority too.

And people wonder why PIA never turns a profit. Airlines don't exist for "prestige", and the ones that do are an unending financial pit. 787 has the same pilot rating as the 777 so that saves a bit on introducing another sub-fleet of planes. Hopefully the longer term view is phasing/selling out the 777 in lieu of 787-9 and 787-10 and introducing more frequencies on narrow-bodies.

. . .
Having personally flown in b787(Qatar ) I must say that plane brings another experience to flying , almost no jet lag due to improved climate ,pressure ,air filter ,lighting ,windows 60% larger and automatic as in that five options and it changes shades darkest is like sunglasses ,less engine noise ,bathrooms have auto sensor buttons ,overall better experience it's actually so much better than 777 that I left emirates (which I frequently have been using ) just for the 787 so I think it would bring more customers to pia to increase overall profit

PIA is Retiring its Five A310 Aircrafts

National carrier has decided to retire its five Airbus A310 aircraft after this year’s Hajj Operations, it is learned.

Pakistan International Airline operates five A310 planes that were in service for quite some time, however, they are now being retired in favor of new planes that PIA is hoping to induct starting next year.

These A310s were used by PIA for both domestic and international routes. Lately they were heavily used for Hajj operations that ended just yesterday.

According to records, these Airbus A310s were in service for over two decades, with one aircraft with registration code AP-BEQ was in service for around 25 years.

It must be noted that PIA had a total of 38 aircraft and with retirement of five airliners, PIA will be left with 33 aircraft.

PIA’s fleet include: 11 A-320 Airbuses, 11 Boeing- 777, six ATR-42 and five ATR-72 and one A330 on wet lease.
