Cold war: Russian paratroopers rehearse killing terrorists after leaping from a plane during military exercises

In dramatic images, paratroopers are seen diving out of a Ilyushin Il-76 plane before landing in a cloud of smoke as explosions are set off as part of the exercise
Once on the ground, several of the troops entered combat vehicles to destroy a mock illegal armed group's base armed with servicemen acting as terrorists (one of which is pictured)
Explosions were set off during the exercise in the village of Budikhino, eastern Russia today.
It comes just days after servicemen were also seen in Crimea for exercises involving more than 1,500 paratroopers
The Russian Defence Ministry today said that more than 1,000 troops (a paratrooper is seen landing) had been involved in the exercise, alongside around 20 airplanes and helicopters
The troops had jumped from a Ilyushin Il-76 plane before landing at a designated site in eastern Russia today, just north of Moscow
The Ilyushin Il-76 plane (pictured) is a multi-purpose four-engine airlifter designed by the Soviet Union's Ilyushin design bureau. It was originally designed to deliver heavy machinery to remote, poorly served areas
