the total u.s aid to the phillipines in the last 70 years is miniscule compared to the aid package given to the phillipines by china in one visit this year and that is a FACT. the u.s never transferred technologies to the phil; hence the phil is still poor and can't industrialize. The u.s is just giving the phil a couple of fishes to eat, but the u.s never transfer decisive technologies to help the phil produce the fish rod and how to fish efficiently. As a result in the past 70 years, the phil has never been a "lab dog" of the U.S like many Chinese like to tout. This can clearly be shown during the Iraq hostage crisis in 2005. The phil did not obey the U.S and withdrew her troops to save the hostage.

Aid has been giving to the philipines by the U.S is near nothing in the past 70 years. The Phil could only take whatever bone is being thrown at by the U.S. However, only due to the recent rise of China that the Phil's stock start to rise. Due to the aggression of china that the phil started to launch the arbitration case. Then the Phil use the verdict and its intention to rescind the verdict as a bargain chip to get aid from china. Without the phillipines stirring up the SCS issue, the matter is not considered as an "international" issue anymore; it has become a bi-lateral issue between china and viet bastards. The Phil has given china a HUGE boost by not making it an international issue; china is more than happy to reward the phil aid for not making it so. Not only that, the phil also starts to lash out their frustration at the U.S for not helping the phil get back to scarborough shoal to earn some bonus points and moral aid from Chinese forumers.

With all the aid china is giving the phil for cussing at Obama; china might be setting up the phil for no point of return from the u.s orbit. Once the phil and the u.s severes diplomatic relation, china might start to grab more of phil territory knowing the u.s won't ever come rescue the phil. Once you go BLACK, you can't go back, baby. The phil only see the mega aid china is giving to the phil, but the phil is not aware that if the Chinese give you 1, they will ask back 10 in return in a future date. The US has not been perfect as the US government only does things for its own interests, this is the only thing Duterte sees at thr US.

China is doing the same thing the US did back in thr early 20th century, they only used different rhetoric and methods but it is clearly the same.

Severing ties between PH and US and replace it with better ties with Mainland China is not pragmatism despite many Filipinos paint Duterte as a "pragmatic" leader.

If the U.S wants to regain the phil, trump admin will have to step up their aid game, not just lip service and a few million in aid..but BILLION in annual aid. At this point of the game, the phil no longer listen to U.S lip service but they want hard cold cash.
