Philippines' Rodrigo Duterte threatens to leave UN

The corruption here in the PH is too bad that putting such offenders to prison will be like a "paradise" for said offenders.

Besides, many Filipinos had enough with drug offenders.

Probably, though I won't call him a "clown", it just happens hat the frankly says what he feels to the public.
the way he expresses and the simplicity of his ideas means he is from gutters .. either that or he is very smart politician tapping into anger of philipinos... bit like trump.

Well he only threatened to leave the UN, not declared to leave the UN.

Besides, the UN may have prevented WW3 up to now, but it kinda failed in other mandates it was supposed to do. It may end the way how the former League of Nations became irrelevant and later disbanded.

UN spends lot of money in stabilizing war torn countries.. just because it does not succeed everywhere does not mean its a 100 percent failure.... although your criticism is very valid.
anyway the way he expresses his views are more suitable for tuktuk driver than a president... there is a dignity to the post, dont you think?
plus I dont think 'he speaks from heart' is a good defense, imagine every world leader started speaking their mind, you will hate half of the foreign leaders....

True, but it seems the UN only acts once the country has been affected by a conflict or has an ongoing conflict. It seems the UN is only designed to prevent WW3, which had done so but due to the member-states, the UN cannot do anything when wars are localized to certain regions due to the five Superpowers - whether it is the US-led West or China-Russia side, having stakes in certain parts of the world.

He could have said such sentiments privately or not reveal them to the public, but the thing is, when Pres. Duterte says something, he usually say it frankly, though his speeches may have some effect in regards to PH-US relations.

well something is better than nothing.. what do you think of UNESCO, WHO, UNDP

Well, those three agencies are kinda "sketchy" as all three have some controversy going on. The thing is, while the ideals of the UN is improving human society by preventing wars and more development, certain aspects on how to do its mandate may be in conflict with the cultures and traditions of some member-states.

Define huge amount?

Thats more of a prestige thing anyway....does not affect realpolitik all that much. Germany and Japan get along fine without a UNSC permanent seat...so will India for however long it takes.

Doesn't change the fact that the UN is pretty much useless and a token figurehead in the geopolitical environment.

Real power and diplomacy is brokered outside of it.

Allowing US bases to be in situated in India in the future @Chinese-Dragon

@Pinoy

Thanks for posting interesting stories of President Rodrigo Duterte.

I like his style - he doesn't take any sh*t from anyone.

He is straight to the point, no nonsense and dispense with all the political and diplomatic bullsh*t.

IMHO, he will get things done for the Philippines.

We can see things happening under his presidency.
He is still cleaning up almost all government agencies. He has not even reached his 100 days in office.

His security should be more tight and vigilant in providing protection for his safety. For sure many will attempt on his life now that he is already starting to crack the Pandora's box of iniquities.

Plans are probably on the way (perhaps another Color Revolution).

American has Trump, In Asia, we have Rodrigo Duterte

President Rodrigo Duterte ridiculed the U.N. as inutile, and lashed at U.S. police killings of black men.

That's a man with a strong backbone and historical-analytical mind.

Wow, if Trump gets elected and gets into verbal fight with Duterte, just sit back and watch the show. I do not like diplomacy to become pedestrian, but, at times, we perhaps need such personalities to get away from the seriousness of world situation.

History produces such figures as Yeltsin, Trump, Duterte etc.

:-)

Agree. With Duterte's experience in Davao, he would have strengthened his security. He may act like a clown but he knows what he is doing.

Re color revolution, Duterte has to look out for the foreign NGO's and manage them carefully.
