The first of the 32 S-70i Black Hawks from a Polish firm owned by US defence manufacturer Lockheed Martin will begin to arrive next year, Defence Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said on Facebook.

"The lack of transport planes and helicopters have never been more acute during the pandemic and in the aftermath of Typhoon Odette. This was exacerbated by our aging Hueys that have become uneconomical to maintain. The 12 brand new Blackhawk bore the brunt of the work during these critical times." he noted.

"Upon the instruction of the President, we are procuring additional 32 brand new S-70i Blackhawk Helicopters. A Notice of Award was issued to PZL Mielec of Poland on 28 December 2021 for the project that comes with an Initial Logistics Support Package and Training for Pilots and Maintenance Crew amounting to PhP32 Billion.

The Contract Agreement is now being drafted, after which I will issue a Notice to Proceed to officially commence the project." he said.

The delivery of these helicopters will start on CY2023 (5 units) while the remaining ones will be delivered in 3 batches as follows: CY2024 - 2nd batch (10 units); CY2025 - 3rd batch (10 units); and CY2026 - last batch (7 units).

Philippines is officially back in the American camp, after a brief detour. PhAF has been in drastic need for upgrading their transport capabilities. Despite economic growth, they are pretty much caught off guard in not upgrading their military at the right time. Much like India.

Philippines need build its entire Armed Forces. It hardly has any Air Force. And Navy is also close to not existence despite being a island nation.

Looks like US is arming Philippines quickly.

Most likely from the stock of surplus Black Hawks that they have. The reason being that the Sikorsky S-92 Raider is the undergoing tests and will most likely replace the BH. That means they got to do something with the surplus orders. What better than to sell them at discounted rates to allied countries? You make money out of it, extend sphere of influence and earn regional partners all at the same time.

Philippines is long due to upgrade its military. I was reading about their history and it seems that the PhAF was quite a capable force back during the Cold War. They were firmly in the US camp and were slated to become another parallel to South Korea. Sadly, they did not progress much in terms of economy and lost the race due to corrupt politics and no long-term vision.

Thats why t129 was allowed from turkey . Philippines to buy from US as well

There was a brief window in time when they were aligning themselves to you lot. Then they switched back quickly. Remember Dueterte's cancellation of the US base deal and planned acquisition of Chinese weapons?

Their armed force and civilian govt were not on the same boat.
