ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Friday said that petrol demand witnessed increase by 25 percent in January following the substantial decrease in its price.
Talking to media here, the minister said that the government was making efforts to arrange the additional petrol to meet the growing demand.

He said that the petrol supply would improve in five to eight days as concerted efforts were underway. Secretary Petroleum and Natural Resources Abid Saeed was also present on the occasion.

The Minister said prices of petroleum products would further decrease in next month, adding that at present there is no plan to open CNG stations in Punjab to ensure availability of gas to domestic consumers. He said that LNG import would start from March 31.

During the current month, he said, petrol demand had reached 15000 Metric Ton from 12,000 MT.

He said that petroleum shortage was in some areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The minister said that 52,000 metric tons petrol would reach by Saturday, while on January 18, Shell Pumps would import 20,000 metric ton petrol and on January 24, 52,000 metric ton petrol would available in the country. He said that till January 31 a total 68,000 metric ton petrol available in the country.

He said that petrol shortage is not only at PSO filling stations but other companies also closed their stations in Lahore. He said that in this regard Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has issued notices to the oil companies.

Khaqan Abbasi said that OGRA and provincial government can take action against the filling stations charging more than notified prices.

He said that for regulating the LPG prices, a summary has been sent to the council of common interest. He said that government want to regulate the prices of LPG.
