Prime Minister Imran Khan arrived in Thar on Friday to address a public gathering in Chhachhro town.

While speaking at the rally, he announced a Health Package for Tharparkar, under which Insaf Health Cards would be provided to 112,000 families of the area.

Two modern mobile hospitals and four ambulances would also be provided, he said.

Speaking about Thar's coal reserves, he said that the natural resources of the area would certainly change Pakistan. "I assure you that you [people of Thar] will be the first to get the benefits of the coal reserves," he added, announcing that the government would install 100 reverse osmosis (RO) plants in the area.

Unfortunately, mining and using coal is one of the most environmentally damaging practices that humans do.
Let's focus all our technologies and build things that can kill us!!
Why use those same technologies for civil use? That would be no fun

So how china survived they extracted coal even have coal plants?

I mean I agree that coal is harmful but first use it to make your self develop enough to shift towards others alternative.

There are no rivers spills or canals in thar. They should be given their due share of water.

Germany a developed Country and 1000 times better environmentally...
Is still using coal power and so other countries in Europe..
Yes I don't approve of it .
But if we have coal in excess, there are ways to use it safely.
Modern technologies can minimise the damage..

I think modern mining and power generation is a different world from that of the 1950's.

Coal can be clean.

ISLAMABAD – After Engro Powergen Thar Limited’s (EPTL) lignite coal power plant in Thar started pumping 330MW of electricity generated by domestic coal into the national grid, Prime Minister Imran Khan reassured the locals that they would be the first recipients of the carbon emissions and other global warming impacts of coal power production.

“Tharparkar is the most backward area of the entire country. But I assure you that the people of Thar will be the first recipients of the coal emissions that are only being produced to the local coal,” Khan said in a Prime Minister House statement on Thursday.

“This is Naya Pakistan and here the locals will be the first beneficiary of whatever is produced from their resources. And hence, the people of Thar will have the first right over the mercury, Sulphur dioxide, Nitrogen oxides and other harmful gases produced by the burning of the coal,” the statement added.

The PM highlighted other byproducts of the Thar coal, which has started adding power to the national grid.

“The air pollution through coal will add to asthma, cancer, heart and lung ailments and neurological problems for the locals,” he said in the statement. “In fact, the resulting acid rain would almost entirely come in the share of the locals.”
