People of Balochistan want freedom from Sardars: Muhabbat Khan Mari

For once I would like to hear a non-Marri, Bugti, Mengal sardar make a similar assertion for all of Balochistan.

They are the worst enemies of freedom - have they ended their dungeons? Do they allow their people to become educated? Or get jobs (other than the slave chores assigned to them)? To leave their town? The total square footage of their area is not more than 3% of Balochistan - so really man, report all the facts.

Lobbying efforts: Baloch nationalist parties may boycott next polls

ISLAMABAD:

The next general elections may be boycotted by all Baloch nationalist parties as pressure builds from separatist groups to abandon parliamentary politics.

“There is a big question mark on whether nationalist groups of Balochistan will participate in the elections,” Senator Shahid Hassan Bugti of the Jamhoori Wattan Party (JWP) told The Express Tribune.

“It does not matter whether nationalist politicians agree with the ideology and demands of the separatists. The fact is they have sympathies for those in the mountains,” said Bugti, whose party also boycotted the 2008 polls.

“Personally, I am disappointed by the way nationalist parties in parliament are being dealt with,” he said, echoing the sentiments of other Baloch parliamentarians.

His comments came after a resolution in the US House of Representatives seeking liberation for Balochistan put the volatile province in the limelight again.

The government has announced it will hold an all parties conference to explore how the unrest in Balochistan can be ended politically. However, there has so far been no breakthrough in the government’s efforts to lure nationalist leaders to the negotiating table.

Experts fear the sense of alienation among ordinary Baloch can aggravate if nationalists decide to abandon parliamentary politics, a move that will surely give a boost to the separatist struggle.

“Demands for separatism will increase if political parties in the parliament decide to quit. Although there was widespread boycott last time, they never tried to alienate themselves from mainstream politics,” said Zafarullah Khan, a political analyst based in Islamabad.

Affirmative steps are needed to save the country’s energy heartlands from drifting further into chaos, he added.

“It is important that all Baloch nationalist parties participate in the upcoming elections. It actually makes their case stronger if they win. Remember Awami League sweeping across East Pakistan in 1970,” said political analyst Harris Khalique.

Bugti said that even if Baloch nationalists participate in the coming elections it will not bring any change to the situation on ground.

Although he did not explicitly admit that separatists were lobbying to convince nationalists to stay away from Islamabad’s politics, some other leaders said they are doing it with all means.

“They (separatists) are doing their best to keep us away from election. They are using their connections within the tribes and in some cases even threatening people,” said a member of the Balochistan Nationalist Party-Mengal.

The BNP (Mengal) leader, who did not wish to be named, said Akhtar had promised separatist groups that he would never take any decision that could hurt the struggle for the rights of the Baloch. “He will stand by his word,” he added.

Pakistan’s intelligence setup has found irrefutable evidence to establish that the Indian spy agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), is working its way to the anti-state militants in Balochistan via its embassy in Kabul and the large number of her consulates located in proximity of Pak-Afghan border particularly the Kandahar consulate.

In a period of two months Balochistan has lost two ministers and a senior bureaucrat who fell prey to target killing. Balochistan’s education minister was gunned down outside his house on October 25. Earlier terrorist pursued Provincial Minister Sardar Rustam Jamali right up to Karachi and killed him in Gulshan-e-Jauhar area. On 31 October Hamid Mahmood, Secretary Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, was critically injured by motorcycle-riding terrorists in Quetta. Non-Baloch bureaucrats who have been living in Balochistan for ages and are heading educational institutions and other development projects have been the target of the militants. Responsibility for these killings has been claimed by Baloch Liberation United Front, a rebel group known to be fully backed by New Delhi.

The modus operandi of the assailants in these three incidents, like in so many other sabotage acts in the past, suggests that the object was to target political leaders and non-Baloch bureaucrats with a view to create general unrest and despondency among the masses that would lead to destabilise Pakistan. Which country would go for destabilising Pakistan except India which has fought three wars and is encouraged by bisecting the country in 1971, after fomenting internal strife? New Delhi wishes to replay the same tactics i.e. to whip up public emotions against the government and political leadership.

Commander of US troops in Afghanistan, General Stanley Mcchrysal, in a report to the American Congress has stated that the burgeoning Indian influence in Afghanistan was a destabilising factor in the region.

Balochistan has a long porous border with Afghanistan. The Indian consulate in Kandahar, a border town, provides a firm base to train, arm and dispatch militants across the border to undertake sabotage activities in Balochistan. Indian companies have been awarded contracts on various projects to link Kabul with Balochistan near Iranian border; and in the bargain it makes the job of RAW easier. Brahamdagh Bugti, Pakistan’s most wanted rebel leader and commander of Balochistan Liberation Army, which has taken arms against security forces of the country, is sitting in Kabul whence he directs his militants on the advice of Indian military consultants. His personal expenses and that of his force, the BLA, are borne by RAW, as a quid pro quo for the former accomplishing the Indian objective of destabilising Pakistan. The para-military force, the Frontier Corps, fighting militants has seized weapons and equipment that bear Indian marking from the possession of militants killed or captured during action.

Adviser to Afghan government, Ehsanullah Aryanzai, in a recent statement disclosed that India was using Afghan soil to conduct across the border anti-Pakistan activities. Additionally, New Delhi’s widely read newspaper, Indian Express, in an article published on 31 July 2009 has revealed India’s involvement in backing terrorists in Balochistan with a view to shake the elected government there.

Anti-state elements have tried to exploit the innocent Baloch people on the basis of economic under-development, and the prevalent poverty in the province for which the federal government and dwellers of Punjab are held responsible. In actual fact, however, the shoe is on the other foot. The local tribal sardars who have exercised a no-questioned-asked sway over their tribes for years cannot withstand any measure of the government that could bring prosperity in the region and develop awakening among the masses that would lead to erosion of their draconian authority.

Insurgency in Balochistan that started in 1975, had re-emerged in 2000 when the government began exploring the province’s vast hithertofore untapped oil and natural gas fields. Instead of assisting the government the sardars instigated the locals on the ground that non-Baloch were trying to rob Balochistan of its mineral wealth. This environment provided golden opportunity to RAW to exploit the emotions of Baloch people against the government of Pakistan.

Pakistan is engaged with Iran for supply of natural gas through a pipeline that would cost 7.5 billion dollars and would overcome the energy needs of the country. The pipeline running between the two countries through Baloch territory is to see Iran supplying 750 million cuft of gas per day to Pakistan over next 25 years. India too was a partner in the deal but backed out under pressure from the United States that does not want any of its allies to establish trade relations with Iran. Tehran has also offered to Pakistan supply of 1000 megawatts of electricity at a discounted price of 6 cents per unit. Probably the happy Pak-Iran trade relations were not to the liking of India who had to do something to sabotage the friendly overtures of the two neighbours.

On 18 October a suicide attack targeted the Revolutionary Guards in Iran’s Sistan-Balochistan province. Forty-two men were killed, seven of them high-ranking members of the elite corps. Jundullah, a shadowy Baloch militant group, claimed responsibility for the attack. It may be recalled that most weapons and ammunition used by this group bear Indian marking. They also receive financial backing from New Delhi. Large-scale Indian support to militants in Swat and tribal territory of NWFP has also been witnessed.

India is expert at diverting world’s attention from its role in terrorist activities by highlighting and presenting Pakistan as exporter of terrorism. The 26/11 Mumbai attack was fully exploited to convince the world that not India but Pakistan was the mother of all sabotage acts.

During the three-day tour of US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, to Pakistan the leadership here brought to her attention the support New Delhi was providing to militants who are fighting Pakistan’s security forces and kill innocent citizens. Instead of encouraging extremist activities in Pakistan India must concentrate on her domestic affairs where a quarter of its billion plus population sleep empty stomach on open footpaths.

Why Pakistani media is giving so much space to baloch leader if everything is fine out there ? Why all of a sudden every party started talking about the haqooq of balochistan ? People of Balochistan want freedom from Sardars: Muhabbat Khan Mari

By Abdul Hafeez - Feb 21st, 2012 (7 Comments)

As a US lawmaker tabled bill in the House of Representatives, espousing self-determination for Balochistan, Pakistani media has been airing string of programmes and holding debates on the issue with several Baloch leaders sharing their views on how to redress the miseries of people of Pakistan’s southwestern province.
In an interview with a local Urdu daily published here on Tuesday, senior Baloch leader and provincial minister Muhabbat Khan Mari has said that Baloch separatist leaders were responsible for all the problems facing the people of Balochistan. He says it seems absolutely ridiculous when Baloch Sardars like Attaulluh Mengal, Akhtar Mengal, Nawab Khair Bux Mari, Barhamdagh Bugti and Herbyar Mari speak about rights of Balochis as they were who exploited the nation.

He said had there been people support for Herbyar Mari, there would have been his influence in at least three Tehseels of the province.

Muhabbat Mari claims only five percent of people have been supporting the separatists.

He says every Baloch child is ready to shed his last drop of blood for Pakistan.

When asked to elaborate situation in Kohlu district, deemed as stronghold of separatists, he said on the one side there were 180 million people of Pakistan while on the other hand only handful of terrorists and still the government of Pakistan seemed to be failed in controlling the miscreants. “Seeking separation is not new for this Sardars,” he said and added Khair Bux Mari lived in Russia for 20 years while his son Herbyar Mari had also been living in Europe. “They have no influence in Kohlu district despite they offered Rs10, 000 to jobless youth to join them,” he said. Mr Mari added that he knew financial status of Mari separatist Sardars and they could not purchase weapons. “Now they are having weapons and living in expensive cities like London. How come deprived Balochs live such a luxurious lives”.

He said Herbayar Mari had spent time in a London jail and was released after Rehman Malik’s efforts.

When asked to comment on excesses with Baloch, Mr Mari said it was beyond any doubt that excesses were committed not other than Baloch Sardars who ruled the province as governors and chife ministers. “I ask them what measures they took for providing basic amenities, education and employment to Baloch people,”. He said Sardars were responsible for injustices as they tried to make Balochis their salves.

He recalls the past and says Nawab Mehrullah Mari, father of famous Baloch leader Khair Bux Mari, didn’t allow British government to open a primary school in his area some 95 years ago. He said the Sardars wanted to keep people away from education.

Answering a question whether Baloch separatists could achieve their goal through US intervention he said: “Even father of this terrorist will not be able to achieve this goal”. We will free people of Balochistan form the shackles of this Sardars and our children would scarify for the integrity of Pakistan.

He also denied that any military operation was going on in the province. Mari said India was funneling arms and money to terrorists in Dera Murad Jamali, Sibbi, Kohlu and Makran through Afghanistan.

Which Balochis? lol learn history of Balochistan first than jump up & down. Balochistan in 1947 was different from todays, Gawadar(Southern parts) & Qallat were not part of it, when British were leaving Balochistan(main part) joined Pakistan while Gawadar(South) was part of Kingdom of Oman & Qallat(Kalat) was princely state & was given option, after thinking for 1 year the Khan of Kallat joined Pakistan in 1948. Later in early 50's the South part(which was under the rule of Oman was purchased by Pakistan & made it a part of Balochistan.

Balochistan is a big province & very diverse. There are many ethnicities living there. Major ones are Balochs, Pushtoons, Makranis, Brahvis, Hazarwis & Sindhis(Lasbela area). Out of these ethnics none want indepandance except Balochs. Now coming to Balochs let me tell you there are dozens of tribes like Marris, Bugtis, Mengals, Baloch, Bizenjos, Jamalis, Legharis, Raisanis & even Bhuttos. Out of these tribes only problem creators are Marris, Bugtis & Mengals which are 3 biggest & more poferful tribes than others. Now even in these 3 tribes many Marris, Bugtis & Mengals are patriotic Pakistanis. Infact the Bugti tribe was divided after death of Akbar Bugti, many joined Brahamdagh Bugti & many remained in Akbar Bugti's JWP which is still pro federation & led by Shahzain Bugti.

Hope you & your jumping indians will now stop dreaming after i waste my precious time to show you the history.
