Dhaka, July 30 (UNB) – Speakers at a roundtable discussion here on Tuesday said people want to see the emergence of a third political force as a better alternative to Awami League and BNP to free the nation from the ongoing crisis.

They also said both the Awami League and BNP want to cling to power at any cost whenever they assume office to continue their corruption, plundering and politicisation.

The main reason behind the recent political violence is the conflict between the two main political parties to go to power or cling to power, they added.

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) arranged the roundtable titled ‘The country’s ongoing political crisis and the way to overcame it’ at the Jatiya Press Club.

“There has been no change in the system of governing the country despite repeated changes in power…The present government has created a constitutional crisis creating an obstacle to the peaceful handover of power. Now a third political force is necessary to overcome the crisis,” said JSD president ASM Abdur Rab.

JSD general secretary Abdul Malek Ratan presented the keynote paper at the programme.

Echoing Rab, Jatiya Party Presidium member Kazi Zafar Ahmed said the emergence of third political force is the aspiration of people though it is yet to happen.

“I’m confident that the third political force will must emerge to free the nation from the present crisis and take the nation forward,” he added.

Criticising the Prime Minister for her remark in parliament that the election will not be held if the opposition sticks to its demand for restoration of the caretaker government, he said, “Is it her wish to win the polls though a blueprint?”

Krishak Sramik Janata League president Kader Siddiqui also slammed the government for what he said its growing repressive acts and failures to run the state. “This regime is worse than autocrat one.”

Nagarik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna said Awami League and BNP have turned into ‘limited companies’ the managing directors (Hasina and Khaleda) of which enjoy all the power.

He opined that the present political crisis has created over the fight between two ladies to go to power.

Manna, however, said, “The current crisis is not intricate rather those who created it are extremely complicated.”

Expressing his crave for a positive a change in the country’s politics and political culture, Manna said it is necessary for emergence of a third political force for the betterment of the country.

Addressing the programme, Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) President AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury said the government has scrapped the non-party caretaker government system as part of its conspiracy to return to power by a stage-managed election.

Mentioning that it is the responsibility of any government to ensure free and fair polls with participation of all, he said the way the government is trying to arrange the next general election the opposition parties are unlikely to take part in it.

He voiced dissatisfaction over the ongoing political crisis following the stubbornness of the government to hold a lopsided election under their arrangement and said an alternative political platform is needed to form to save the country from it.

Chaired by the JSD president, the programme was addressed, among others, by Gano Forum joint secretary Safiullah, Dhaka University teachers Prof Mahbubullah, Prof Dr Syed Anwar Husain and Gonoshastaya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury.

Unfortunately that thinks not going to happened soon . only third force can be the islamic parties but they too are united under one platform/some kind of political understanding . recent unified movement of hefajot have prove islamic parties have good popularity based among mass population . if hefajot a relatively hardcore islamic force can comes close to any understanding with moderate islamic party like Jamat e islami it will be a force to reckon with in near future .

The way things are going. Awami league itself will probably be divided into two parties and the leadership of BNP will altogether be ousted. Khaleda Zia's role has been suicidal to say the least. With the election literally few months more to go, and no caretaker govt in sight, I don't really know a peaceful solution to the outcome. A third party under the scenerio does not seem like a probable option less its hefazotis, which I don't think is capable of winning national elections. Anyways, the experts here should be able to comment on that.

16 crore want awami league...16 crore wants bnp....16 crore wants shahbag....16 crore wants mullahs....16 crore wants third force.....thats 80 crore :yay:

@ To give a comment on Bangladesh politics it is very difficult. You just cannot say that third political party is coming.

@ In fact we have 04 political parties or groups. These are Awami Leaque, BNP, Jatia Party and Jamat-e-Islami.

@ Question is who all are proposing for this 3rd political force ? It is JSD, it is Qader Siddique, it is Rob and it is "Bicalpo Dhara". Now, if election is held free and fare these parties will hardly get maximum of 4 seats ??? That too with the blessing of above two political parties.

All " Utopian Ideas" which has no ground reality In the words of "Mal" all rubbish !!!!!!!!

1. We know a lot of Indians want to jettison Didi off. But GOI values her for keeping Junglemahal a little quiet. And more important, her pattern of mass politics helps keep the secessionist sentiment in IOB cool.

2. I believe our DGFI needs to work more seriously in IOB. Surely ISI and Chinese MSS would be happy to cooperate.

I am sorry but unfortunately most of senior and mid-ranking officers are with mercenary mentality. Nothing better can expected from BA.

Bhutto had thought Zia was ---; Nawaz had thought Mush was -----. But then there are internal dynamics and pressure from within the armed forces. There are cries of the common man seeking deliverance from torture and corruption. And when these build up, the ever watching foreign eye arranges things.
