Pentagon trying to free up choppers for Pakistan​

WASHINGTON: A US military official has said that an assault by Pakistani ground forces in South Waziristan “can still be effective” despite some shortages, and the Pentagon is trying to free up helicopters and other equipment for Pakistan “as soon as possible”. Washington is also securing some equipment through third governments, but the effort is moving slowly, said officials.US defence officials also said that Pakistan has mobilised enough forces and equipment to launch a long-awaited ground offensive in South Waziristan. reuters

It may happen that Pakistan get Cobra Helicopters(used one) either from USA or from any American Ally. It is just like in June this year, Pakistan got 4 used MI-17 helos, in woking condition, through USA. The aircraft were transported in a cargo plane at Islamabad airport and within days, they were put into action.

The problem with Cobras is that in USA they are no more flying with Army or National Guard, which may be readilly tranferred to Pakistan. If Pakistan gets Cobra now, it will take minimum 6-8 months that these Cobras are brought in working condtion---> They will undergo refurbishment, at some US government aviation facility. Off course, the expenditure will be minus from the US aid to Pakistan.

Do they have US SAMs or other suppliers?
Has lately frequecy of flights landing in Kabul increased?

The existence of ManPads is extremely doubtful, as no reports of any captured manpads or any launch of manpads at any heli has surfuced.

TTP usually try to target Pak Army's helis using RPGs and small and medium AA guns, usually of 12.7mm calibre.
