Johannesburg: Former Pakistan captain and fast bowler Wasim Akram has been brought in by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to supervise a 10-day specialised camp for fast bowlers in Karachi.

Stating that it will prepare special pitches for the national team ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy in England in June, a PCB official said that Akram will train not only national team pace bowlers, but also some upcoming young and raw pace bowlers in the camp.

Akram`s appointment came on the heels of Pakistan`s chief selector Iqbal Qasim recent comments that the team could face a fast bowling crisis as pace talent was drying up in the country following a disappointing show from the Pakistani pacers in this year`s Test series against South Africa in which they suffered a whitewash.

Akram is Pakistan`s most successful fast bowler with 414 Test and 502 one-day international wickets, the report adds.

Finally some sense shown by PCB hope Wasim finds some new sensations in the field of fast bowling for Pakistan

Lahore April 3, 2013: In the meeting of Pakistan Cricket Board Executive Coordination Committee (ECC) held earlier this week, following decisions were taken:

1. A camp for fast bowler will be held in Karachi before the national team camp for the ICC Champions Trophy. Mr. Wasim Akram will conduct the camp. National team bowlers along with upcoming and young bowlers will participate in the camp. 15-17 bowlers are expected to participate in this camp. The camp will be of 10 days duration. Mr. Akram will also join the national team camp for a couple of days.

2. Later, approximately 10 days long national team training camp will be held at Abbottabad. The ECC noted that during South Africa tour, batsmen struggled due to the difference in pitch conditions. Considering the different conditions at the venue of the ICC Champions Trophy, it was decided in the ECC meeting that special pitches, which are close to the English conditions, would be prepared for the training camp to help the players in preparation for the tour.

3. The final dates of both the camps will be announced later.

The fast bowlers to feature in the camp;

Mohammad Irfan
Junaid Khan
Ehsan Adil
Rahat Ali
Asad Ali
Wahab Riaz
Anwar Ali
Zia-ul-Haq
Imran Khan
Sadaf Hussain
Tabish Khan
Bilawal Bhatti
Mohammad Aftab
Ahmed Jamal

Mohammed Irfan has a lot of potential. Unfortunately they discovered him late. He has joined the team at the age of 30. For fast bowlers, retirement has to come very soon. I reckon he'll probably play 3 years max.

He will be a great asset and a value addition to the team
