KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to resume efforts to revive international cricket in the country as the governing body is eyeing to invite foreign teams after the World Twenty20.

Pakistan are not scheduled to play any series until October this year, and the PCB is considering various options on how to use that time constructively.

“We are looking to invite A teams or other foreign teams,” said PCB Chairman Najam Sethi in Dhaka.

“The aim is to show the situation is not that bad and teams can visit and play in Pakistan.”

Pakistan have not hosted a high-profile series since the 2009 attack on the Sri Lanka team. The PCB initiated efforts to resume international cricket under former chairman Zaka Ashraf in 2012, hosting series against teams from British universities and Afghanistan successfully.

Meanwhile, Sethi said the PCB was also holding discussions with various boards for a summer showdown.

“There are some options, but I will not comment because it’s premature. There is also an option to play a short series against India in June-July. There was a recommendation once but we will have to see whether still it’s on the table.”

‘Misbah’s record is fine’

Reposing faith in Pakistan’s Test and One-Day International captain Misbahul Haq, Sethi hinted to endure with his decision to keep the veteran till next year’s World Cup.

“It’s important to announce a captain earlier so that the team can settle,” said Sethi.

“I think Misbah’s record is fine.”
