Panama Leaks: SC observes it is being swamped with petitions everyday

ISLAMABAD: A larger bench of the Supreme Court resumed hearing of the Panama Leaks case on Thursday.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali said that every day they were receiving six to 10 petition. "If we begin hearing each petiton the real case will be left aside."

To this, advocate Tariq Asad said that he had filed the first petition in April.

The Chief Justice remarked that Asad had asked that the case be sent to National Accountability Bureau and Federal Investigative Agency.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) lawyer Hamid Khan said that the Prime Minister's name had appeared in the Panama Leaks and the apex court should analyse three of the speeches he made regarding the allegations.

PM submits reply in court

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif submitted his reply in the Supreme Court in which he said that PTI's 'proofs' were based on lies.

Imran Khan has not come up with solid evidence, the reply stated.

On Wednesday, the children of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif submitted a petition in the Supreme Court against documents submitted by PTI in the Panama Leaks case.

The petition submitted by Maryam, Hasan and Hussain Nawaz states that the 683 pages submitted by the PTI were just pieces of paper and did not have any legal standing.

The petition was submitted by Advocate Akram Sheikh on behalf of the prime minister’s children.

In the last hearing, Justice Azmat Saeed said documents submitted by PTI had no relevance with the case. “The documents also include newspaper clippings. The petitioner himself has buried the truth,” Justice Azmat remarked.

The court maintained that one side had submitted 700 pages while the other had submitted 1600 pages. "We are not a computer that we scan the documents in a minute," Justice Azmat Saeed said.

The verdict will be in favour of Pakistan: Imran Khan

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan said on Thursday that the real match has not begun yet. "The matter is in the court. Let's see what happens next," he said.

Speaking to journalists outside the Supreme Court he said that the verdict will be in favour of Pakistan, adding that he will be visiting London tomorrow for a personal visit.

PTI leader Jehangir Tareen said that they were not fighting this case for making it to headlines. "We are fighting this public interest case against corruption."

PTI has asked help of Advocate Khosa of PPP. He said that he doesn't have any problem but will decide after discussing the matter with party leadership.

I will make it short and simple . Finding Solid Evidence is proving hard for PTI lawmakers Hamid Khan and Naeem Bukhari against Nawaz Sharif. SC still thinks PTI is IB or NAB.

I don't know what the court wants as evidence against Nawaz Sharif.

SC didn't rejected the Qatari Prince letter today or even question about it.


Next hearing will be on 29 Nov 2016. Shame !!! So much time is given.

Panama pleas: SC asks PTI to submit ‘tangible’ documentary evidence


ISLAMABAD – The Supreme court of Pakistan has adjourned the hearing of petitions seeking a probe into Panama papers till November 29.

During today’s hearing, Justice Azmat Saeed Khosa asked Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s counsel Hamid Khan to submit documentary evidence instead of highlighting conflict between multiple statements of Premier Nawaz Sharif.

Justice Azmat maintained that both the concerned parties confirmed that the London flats were purchased by off-shore companies whereas Sharif family argued that the flats belonged to Hussain Nawaz. He questioned PTI’s counsel as how the final conclusion can be drawn through Prime minister’s statements.

PTI’s counsel Hamid Khan stated before the apex court that the premier did not disclose about his apartments in London and real estate investments in Dubai. He went on to allege the premier of concealing his London flats.

he expressed that the scions of PM Nawaz did not provide details of their businesses abroad.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali remarked that the court was receiving 8-10 applications on each hearing date but it wanted to wind up the case as early as possible.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had earlier filed a petition before the Supreme Court of Pakistan seeking a dismissal of pleas regarding Panama leaks.

The premier in his petition argued that no tangible evidences were presented before the court by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and so the petitions in this regard may be dismissed.

Prime Minister’s scions on Wednesday submitted response in court that the petitions seeking a probe into Panama papers should be dismissed. The response stated that the documentary evidence presented before the court by PTI had no legal standing.

The petitions seeking Prime Minister disqualification over Panama Leaks issue were filed by multiple political parties including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Siraj-ul-Hag and Awami Muslim League’s Sheikh Rashid Ahmad.

A five-member larger bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, is hearing the petitions.

During the previous hearing the apex court had asked all the parties to exchange the documentary evidence. PM’s sons submitted a letter from Qatari prince suggesting that the London flats (No 16, 16A, 17 and 17A) were handed over to Sharif family in 2006 as Qatar’s royal family and Mian Shareef had inked a business agreement.

Maryam Nawaz, the daughter of PM Nawaz had submitted before the court that she was a trustee of the three mentioned companies named Nielson Holdings Limited, Coomber Group and Nescol limited.

PTI’s counsel Hamid Khan would be arguing today regarding the authenticity of the documents submitted by the party. The court had earlier observed on Tuesday that the documentary evidence submitted by PTI had no link with the case and so the party should review the documents within 48 hours.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had earlier submitted documentary evidence against Sharif family on Monday. Meanwhile, Premier’s sons changed their legal representative and now Barrister Akram Sheikh would be defending Sharif family in court

Well today's hearing was wasted by PTI's Hamid Khan when he took 1 and a half hours reading the PM's address in Parliament.

Court wanted him to stop, asked him to stop several times, eventually had said that Hamid had wasted precious time.

You know what it means? That court knows what is the truth, but it wants PTI's legal team to present valid evidences. They are asking them again and again for the evidences that PTI had already submitted, but they only need to point them out in front of the court as they will not read 1500 pages and come back to lawyers asking questions. Poori ki poori ganga ulti beh rahi hai. Reading a full address in front of the court was just useless and shameful, not expected from a lawyer like Hamid Khan.

Now court has decided to read the evidences themselves I believe that's why they have adjourned till 29th.

What a waste this PTIs legal team is... I think PTI should involve not just Khosa, but also Aitzaz, Farough Naseem etc to fight the case really well.

I dont understand why the court is persisting PTI to provide more evidences, since the confession of noora king lying before the parliament is more than enough to get him disqualified and there are huge discrepancies in the documents provided by Noora royal highness family.
