Palestinians mourn death of a Bangladeshi war hero

.
To be honest , I would not celebrate him as a hero. He turned out to be traitor. That is like celebrating Matiur Rehman.

Having said that , his personal achievements can be attributed or at least given credit to the training we provided to him.

No, to be honest Pakistan as a nation as a society politically militarily and historically fked up with East Pakistan chapter. First of all including east Pakistan with West was the biggest blunder in creation of a nation. Just why the f would somebody in their right mind would create a nation with two parts geographically separated by 1000+ miles with a big @ss enemy in middle! This is why I say Pakistan along with many nations under British Empire yes that also includes India were creation of British Empire.
Why should Bangladesh be included with Pakistan? Why not include freaking Indonesia and while we are at it add some pacific ocean island to the pakistani map. Its just stupid and disgusting to solely blame Bangladesh for their separation. Its like your parents forcefully marry you with a Chinese women who speaks no word in Urdu and neither you speak Chinese and the relationship is bound to split. just a plane stupid move.

As for the topic, the credit goes to PAF for providing me the best training and if their were any other PAF pilot in his position they would have accomplished the same.

Though I don't want this to turn into another 1971 thread, did he serve do any military service for Pakistan during the war? I know he was a flight commander at the time.

.
Happy to know that our Bangladeshi allies feel as strongly about an independent Palestine as India does.

He was detained for months without informing status to his family. He refused to snitch on Bengali personnel who deserted. Watch the documentary on his Top Gun award.

Palestinian activists are mourning the loss of Saiful Azam, 79, a Bangladesh fighter pilot who died of natural causes in the capital, Dhaka, on Sunday.

Azam, also a former legislator from Bangladesh's mid-northern Pabna-3 constituency, was regarded as a legendary figure for Bangladeshi people, thanks to his record as an ace fighter pilot.

A unique figure in the history of Bangladesh, Azam fought in wars as a fighter pilot in three different countries - Jordan, Iraq, and Pakistan.

During the 1967 Six-Day War, he was the only pilot to have downed four Israeli aircraft.

Mourning him on Facebook, Palestinian historian Osama al-Ashqar hailed Azam as a great airman.

"Our brothers in Bangladesh and Pakistan were our partners in resistance and defending the Al-Aqsa Mosque," the holy site in Jerusalem, he added.

The Palestinian professor Naji Shoukri posted on his Twitter prayers mourning Azam.

"Saiful Azam loved Palestine and fought for the sake of Jerusalem," said Shoukri, saluting him and wishing him God's grace.

Renowned Palestinian journalist Tamer al-Mishal lauded Azam, calling him "the Eagle of the Air".

Downing four Israeli warplanes
On June 5, 1967, four Israeli jets were descending on Jordan's Mafraq airbase to smash the country's tiny air force, shortly after the entire Egyptian air force had been destroyed.

Jordanian air force commanders deployed Azam to thwart the attack, shooting down two aircraft. He was shifted to Iraq two days later to defend air bases, where he shot down two more Israeli planes.

In recognition of Azam's contributions, he was conferred with military awards by Jordan and Iraq. The United States also gave him the Living Eagles title in 2001 for his outstanding skills.

After the independence of Bangladesh in 1971, the veteran pilot joined the Bangladesh Air Force to serve his homeland. In 1980, he retired and joined the civil service and later took up a political career.

Describing Azam as the pride of Bangladesh, former chief of Border Guards Bangladesh, Major General Fazlur Rahman, said his name will remain a part of Bangladesh's history.

"He is a source of inspiration for every soldier in the battleground on how to defeat the big enemy with limited weapons. He set a milestone in optimum use of skills and courage during war," Rahman said.

Star of courage medal
Born in a remote area in Bangladesh’s central district of Pabna in 1941, he spent his childhood in the Indian city of Kolkata with his father. After the partition of the Indian subcontinent in 1947, his family migrated to Bangladesh (then East Pakistan).

According to the South Asia-based analytical website Roar Media, Azam left home at the age of 14 for higher secondary education in then West Pakistan (now Pakistan). In 1958 he was admitted to Pakistan Air Force Cadet College, where he completed his education as a pilot officer.

Popular defence blog Fighter Jets World also recorded that after learning the fundamentals of aviation in Pakistan, Azam was sent for advanced air combat training at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona.

During the 1965 India-Pakistan war he also downed an Indian warplane, encouraging Pakistani forces to stand against India with limited warfare tools.

The act was widely applauded in Pakistan, which awarded Azam Pakistani's Star of Courage (Sitara-e-Jurat) medal, the third-most prestigious award of its military.
He did it flying under Pakistani flag not Bangladeshi flag.

Okay so what should we do ? Saw his body in half and send to Pakistan?

The man is dead, why keep arguing over who deserves credits for his exploits ? The credit for his heroics only lies with him.

The man was a hero, and he will inspire people in both countries, bear in mind he's is Bangali and it important for us because we were regarded as cowards and unfit for service by a certain group of people.

So while he is your hero by all means, he holds a more significant meaning for us.
God D are you crazy i think its hard for you to swallow the truth it was Pakistani Pilot at that time Pakistan launch him there just cuz he died or Bangladesh exist doesnt matter cuz it was not sent by anyone els but Pakistan..
but Palestinian are thanking to both of us so instead of promise them to support you guys come to cry for no reason.
Pakistani AF is the best we know who to utilize and where to,.

.
Meme doesn't apply.

His personal achievements can only be attributed to training we provided him.

Later he turned out to be traitor just like rest of bengalis.

Your top para requires an explanation since it is not so straightforward thing.

Agree with last point.

This really? I apologised, even after as it seems you accepted an apology after liking a post of mine. You carry on rolling.

I hate silly arguments like this. Claiming credits of his exceptional skills. Then every pilot would have been an MM Alam Or a Saiful Azam

WRONG... ALSO TRAINED IN USAF

It was Pakistan who gets training from different countries and train also different countries. after he left he didnt contribute anything to BAF.
he was Pakistani we trained him and sent him to mission.. you cant take away this from Pakistan bangladesh actually killing those who support united Pakistan other wise we hardly see MM Alam praise by bangladesh just cuz he decide to live in Pakistan.
Pray for him instead of crying for no reason.

MM Alam is not a Bangladeshi and so naturally he is not discussed much in Bangladesh. That does not take anything away from his achievements.
I respect him despite not siding with Bangladesh in 1971 unlike Azam.

There was nothing wrong with opposing separation of East Pakistan as a matter of principle. Our beef is with those who chose to perpetrate Op Searchlight and subsequent rounds of harming unarmed civilians.

May both Alam and Azam rest in peace and paradise.

Operation search light was a justified response to the bengali treachery.

I have not demeaned your race or country. I have just presented the historical fact that bengalis sided with India to achieve independence.

Siding with India = traitors.
