ISLAMABAD : Pakistan on Tuesday said it had established a comprehensive and effective national nuclear security regime which is at par with the latest international standards and guidelines.

The Foreign Office in a statement on eve of the second Ministerial Nuclear Security Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), being held in Vienna on 5-6 December 2016, said the regime is based on an extensive legislative and regulatory framework governing the security of nuclear material, radioactive substances, associated facilities and activities.

This is backed by strong institutions and organizations with the requisite authorities, resources and trained manpower for effective implementation.

On the occasion of the second Ministerial Nuclear Security Conference of IAEA,the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has published a brochure outlining Pakistan’s nuclear security regime.

It’s a part of Pakistan’s policy to provide awareness and transparency about measures taken by it to strengthen nuclear security nationally.

The brochure, copies of which have been distributed among the participants of the Nuclear Security Conference, can be accessed online on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Pakistan keeps its nuclear security systems and measures under constant review and continues to invest in relevant technologies and human resources, the statement said and added Pakistan has established an independent nuclear regulatory authority with wide-ranging regulatory and inspection mandate.

It said Pakistan’s nuclear security arrangements have been recognized at the international level by several high ranking officials and experts.

During his inaugural address at the IAEA Nuclear Security Conference in Vienna on 5th December 2016, the IAEA Director General, Yukiya Amano, expressed his appreciation for Pakistan Center of Excellence on Nuclear Security (PCENS).

PCENS has developed into an important hub for training in various aspects of nuclear security and has hosted several international and regional training events including those sponsored by the IAEA.

Close this thread as we don't have to prove to anyone our strategic assets are safe. People who made them know how to look after them too. This is an India ploy to keep our nuclear programs in the media all the time to create suspicion and uncertainty. Have ever any one attacked our installations that it has to be in the news all the time. There are other countries do exists who have got more then we posses, do their nuclear programs are any time in the head lines. So stop this nonsense and close this thread and don't play into other hands and do disservice to our country and be smart.

Fears over Pakistan's nuclear security are unfounded given Pakistan is the only country that is winning the war on WOT. The same motivated lot is protecting the nuclear sites. :coffee:

Come to think of it, over the last few years how many of our military installations have been attacked by terrorists, and how many of India's have been attacked?

Shouldn't India's nukes be as much as a risk as ours if not more?

After sooo much propaganda the desire of the enemies to de-nuclarise Pakistan by war is just not feasible, However economically they may be close to a real win with issaq (dalla)Dar the economic hitman this could be almost achieved as the nation's highways and other buildings have been mortgaged so nuclear asset being mortgaged could be around the corner!

i totally agree with you. Its a design to know what Pakistan have been doing regarding its safety and to keep us in constant fear we are unpredictable and unreliable, when other side of our border its unclear that their Nuclear is safe or not.
Wrong Perception is biggest threat than reality.

Last three years we saw attacks in Pakistan Army in Rawalpindi, PAF Badaber attack, Karachi airport attack, Bannu army cantonment attack, Pasni radar station attack etc.

In 2016 Indian security forces had only 172 fatalities despite having to secure a much larger nation, whereas Pakistani security forces had 290 fatalities

They were not unfounded when TTP was in Swat.

IAEA did us a favor by offering suggestions and technologies to improve the security of our strategic assets.

Is there statistics specifically from attacks on military bases/facilities?

Because one of the largest causes of soldier casualties in Pakistan is remotely placed IED's, and I don't see how someone could use an IED to break into a security compound.

Bannu attack was on an army convoy, and Pasni radar station attack yielded no casualties. Also some of these attacks took place before Operation Zarb-E-Azb and the NAP, when militants were openly roaming around, it is definitely not as easy to plan and carry out an attack as it was a few years back.

Also Not relevant but, those statistics really put into perspective how successful Zarb-E-Azb has been, in the last two years total deaths have gone from 5400 to 1700. 7 years ago, the total deaths were 11,000+ which is insane.

Simply put, more the casualties and incidents of violence, worse is the security situation.
Also none of India's top 10-15 cities have seen any major bombing since 2013, whereas Lahore saw a bombing this year and several more bombings in Quetta and Peshawar.

Not necessarily, nuclear weapons are kept at secure military facilities nowhere near major towns and cities, where any bomber or gunman can walk in and do damage. an attack on a military base however has to be planned and executed with near perfection in order to be successful. Meaning a country with more attacks on military installations, is more likely to be at risk than a country with more civilian casualties.
