Pakistan's New Provinces Issue

new province in Pakistan? didn't know that.

Election drama.

There will be no province before the elections, this is merely a storyline designed to fool gullible minds into voting for another PPP-regime. If they wanted to create another province, they had 5 years to do it so why all this rush towards the end??

Plus, why are there additional seatsin the NA? Shouldn't the seats from Punjab be transferred directly to this new sooba?? Or perhaps PPP wants to strengthen its grip further for more corruption and destruction.

I sometimes think why the whole party doesn't just become some shaheeds and leave Pakistan alone ??

Not going to happen. PML-N is ruling Punjab and they oppose it.

If new provinces are to be created, it must NEVER BE ETHNIC

Besides, here is what the Public has to say:

amazing ZARDARI does it again!!! all of a sudden no one expected and BANG PPP pulls out a move that will make south punjab pro PPP while north punjab will see PML Q,PML N & PTI fight it out!

People here are not getting the real impact this will have in PPP's final tally in Parliament. If they manage to create this province before election, major seats in this state will go to them. Plus they will have a chance to promise the same to other such areas of Punjab/Sindh/Balochistan .

Battle for new province gets presidential go-ahead

ISLAMABAD - Federal Law Minister Farooq H Naek on Sunday briefed President Asif Ali Zardari on legal aspects of the proposed Bahawalpur Janoobi Punjab (BJP) province and the legal vetting of the bill which is likely to be tabled before the National Assembly on Tuesday (tomorrow). Earlier, Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf also had a detailed meeting with President Zardari and discussed a host of issues, including the government’s strategy on the new province, talks with Minhajul Quran Chief Tahirul Qadri and progress on the caretaker setup at federal level, sources in the ruling PPP revealed. Later, Prime Minister Ashraf flew to Karachi where he held important meetings with the Sindh governor and the chief minister. Sources in the party revealed Farooq Naek was scheduled to join the government delegation to hold talks with Tahirul Qadri at the Minhajul Quran head office in Lahore, but he was called by President Asif Ali Zardari for consultation on important constitutional matters.Sources, aware of Zardari-Naek deliberations, told The Nation that the law minister briefed the president on the possible fallouts of the proposed bill to be tabled before the National Assembly for the creation of the new province comprising the South Punjab districts. The expected opposition of the bill from the PML-N and the MPs from Bahawalpur division, who wanted to see the restoration of the old Bahawalpur Province, was also discussed. The government strategy to tackle these hurdles in the way of the smooth passage of the bill from the National Assembly came under discussion.Sources in the coalition government said the PPP just wanted to get the bill passed from the National Assembly and despatch it to the Punjab Assembly, primarily to put the PML-N under pressure and make it an election issue for the party to grab maximum seats from South Punjab. The sources further said President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Federal Law Minister Farooq H Naek were on the same page that the proposed bill must be tabled in the National Assembly. Most probably, it would be tabled on Tuesday. The formation of caretaker setups at federal level and in the provinces was another important issue which came under threadbare discussion. The wavering of PML-N on the dissolution of the National and provincial assemblies on the same day was also discussed. The law minister suggested that an amendment to the Constitution should be made to make the federal and provincial governments bound to dissolve their respective assemblies on the same day so that elections to the national and provincial assemblies in the country could be held on the same day.The sources further disclosed that Zardari had asked Prime Minister Ashraf to contact Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Ch Nisar for finalising name of the caretaker prime minister and other modalities to hold the elections in a free, fair and transparent fashion. They added the ruling coalition had already completed its homework for a few names for the caretaker prime minister and was having a word with Tahirul Qadri on these names to shortlist two of them, while the formal process of consultation would be held with the leader of the opposition.

PML-N to bring own new province bill: Nisar

ISLAMABAD - Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Sunday lashed out at Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government for doing politics in the name of new provinces in Punjab just to win over the support of south Punjab people in the upcoming elections.Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Ch Nisar Ali Khan announced that PML-N would table its own amendment bill for the creation of Bahawalpur and south Punjab provinces in line with the resolutions passed by the Punjab Assembly. He said opposition had serious reservations over the very composition of the parliamentary commission for creation of new provinces in Punjab and said that on one hand the commission had completely ignored the leadership of Punjab where the new provinces were to be created while on the other hand the people from other provinces were given representation in the commission to decide the fate of Punjab. He announced that Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) would come up with its own piece of legislation for creation of two in south Punjab to fully reflect the aspirations of the people of the area."Not even a single member of the commission belong to Punjab that is being divided,” said the opposition leader adding, that it was the party's right to choose a member on its own. "The chairman of the commission is President Zardari's staff officer. There is no MNA, MPA or senator from Punjab in the commission".The formulation of a new province is not a big issue as there are other bigger problems in the country, he said adding, that if south Punjab province is formed, Makhdoom will become its chief minister and Gilani will become the governor. The problems of the poor people will remain there." Nisar said his party was committed to Hazara province. He, however, said the PML-N would consult other parties on this issue."No senior member of the PML-N belonging to Punjab was consulted prior to the formation of parliamentary commission, which was unlawfully named by President Zardari," Nisar was of the view.He said the federal government should have consulted the PML-N about the formation of commission under the law. He underlined that parts of northern Punjab were also included in the proposed south Punjab province.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Monday said that Southern Punjab and Bahawalpur should be two separate provinces.

Speaking to the media alongside Chaudhry Nisar following a PML-N meeting, Shahbaz criticised the announcement for the formation of the Bahawalpur South Punjab province, terming it as a ploy to delay the upcoming general elections.

Chaudhry Nisar accused the ANP and MQM of dividing Punjab, adding that the PML-N would introduce a bill seeking the formation of Bahawalpur, Multan and Hazara provinces in the National Assembly.

On January 26, the Parliamentary Committee on new provinces met in Islamabad and recommended ‘Bahawalpur South Punjab’ as the name for a new province in Punjab. According to sources, the commission also finalised recommendations for constitutional amendments for making a new province in South Punjab.

Meanwhile protests have been held in Multan, Sargodha and Mianwail against the name and jurisdiction of the new province.

Creating new provinces in Pakistan under these corrupt bastards is a dangerous move & this shows that they are trying to buy votes by doing such things. New provinces should not be made in Pakistan right now, this will only promote hatred & racism. Plus the corrupt Govt. is deciding to make new provinces because of 1 or 2 percent people who are brainless & corrupt.

Saw one segment in the news yesterday night in which people are against the creation of new province.

Provinces should be made but not on ethnic bases but on administration bases and sources are also provided to these provinces and hope they are ruled by honest people
