ISLAMABAD: In the fourth event of the six-tournament MENA (Middle East and North Africa) Golf Tour, that concluded at the Tour Links Golf Club in Ras-el Khaimah, United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday, Mohammad Munir of Pakistan emerged triumphant through golfing excellence that enabled him to keep the Pakistan flag flying high for the second successive golf championship. Just a week back Shafiq Masih of Pakistan was the victorious one in the third segment of this Tour and now in the fourth tournament it is Munir who marched past his overseas international rivals to look adequately super and fetch the top prize and accomplish a virtual dream like status at this level.

“It certainly was not easy, especially with players of the class of Zane Scotland and David Law as rivals,” said Munir over the phone. He further went on to say that: “Zane was equally brilliant all the three days but I kept up the pressure through strategic placement of shots and extremely good work on the greens.”

And all this is reflected in his scores over the three rounds on these 7200 yards, very long, Tower Links Golf Course. A round of six under par 66 on the first day backed up by a three under par 69 on the second day and another 69 in the final go gave him a three rounds aggregate of 204, twelve under par for the championship and he beat the runner-up Zane Scotland of England by four strokes. David, another leading contender from England, came third with a three days score of 209.

Another Pakistani who attained a good position in this championship is Matloob Ahmad. He ended up grabbing the fourth position with three rounds scores of 70, 71 and 69 and an aggregate score of 210, six under par. By virtue of this victory, Munir is second in the order of merit of MENA Golf Tour and Shafiq is fourth in the order of merit.
