Srinagar: In a major ceasefire violation, Pakistani troops opened fire on the Indian post along the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday night.

Five Indian soldiers were killed in the attack.

According to sources, 15-20 Pakistani soldiers of 101 Mujahideen Regiment, aided by a few terrorists, attacked the Sarla post on the Indian side of the LoC.

The Pakistani Armymen reportedly intruded 500 metres into the Indian side of LoC past midnight.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also confirmed the attack on the microblogging website Twitter.

"Was briefed early this morning about news that 5 of our soldiers had been killed on the LOC. My heartfelt condolences to their next of kin."

The CM further underlined that such incidents cast a doubt over the Pakistan government's intention regarding its ties with India.

"These incidents don't help efforts to normalise or even improve relations with Pak & call in to question the Pak Govt's recent overtures."

Army Chief Gen Bikram Singh is taking stock of the situation, Army sources said in Delhi.

The incident could cast a shadow on the resumption of the Indo-Pak dialogue process expected later this month. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif are slated to meet in New York next month on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session.

The incident comes hours after a BSF jawan was injured in firing from across Indo-Pak border in Samba district of J&K.

"There was sniper firing from some persons at around 15:55 hours from Pakistan side along the International Border (IB) at Narainpur Border Out Post (BOP) area in Ramgarh sector," a senior BSF officer said.

Two rounds were fired from Pakistan side and the bullets hit Head Constable Ram Niwas Meena of 200 Battalion, he said.

On July 27, another BSF jawan was injured when Pakistani troops violated ceasefire twice in the space of 10 hours by targeting Indian posts along the Indo-Pak border in Poonch and Kathua districts.

The Pakistani troops had used mortars, RPGs and heavy machine guns leading to heavy firing exchanges.

On July 03, Pakistan violated ceasefire when it fired on cops, who had gone to LoC in Sabzian, Poonch to collect the body of a Pakistani intruder killed in an IED blast on July 01.

Pakistani troops fired on troops trying to evacuate injured porters after two were killed in IED attack by Pakistani militants along LoC in Poonch on July 08.

On July 12, Pakistani Rangers fired on Indian forward posts in Pindi belt along International Border (IB) in Jammu district.

Pakistani troops opened small arms firing on Indian posts in forward area along LoC in Poonch district on the night of July 22.

Guys relax. This is nothing new. Pakistan will deny any such thing even happened.

I'm with Manmohan on this one, we must not do anything radical and disturb the entire board. We must talk piece like Sharif is doing and must continue doing what we do best, i.e. not give a chance to unify the warring factions in the enemy state, infact help them slug it out.

The REAL non-conventional war is on the economy, education and health side. Thats where we must do everything in our power to defeat our macho headed enemy. Remember it takes a second to kill someone, but 15 years atleast to educate a child fruitfully. Let the enemy keep using their young as cannon fodder. Its for the best.

indian politicians are really impotence

seriously i dont understand why all this happen when we are to start peace talk.

Exactly thats why !!!

PA unlike IA has its own agenda and history is they don't like your government doing something they don't like.

Just think of situation , if India-Pak solved all disputes by taking then how much importance PA will have in your local politics and power projections. Thats would be none.

Ambush at Poonch

A patrol of Indian Army comprising of one Non Commissioned Officer and five Other Ranks was ambushed by a Pak Border Action Team close to the Line of Control in Poonch Sector of J&K early morning on 06 August 2013. In the ensuing firefight, five Indian soldiers were martyred. The ambush was carried out by approximately 20 heavily armed terrorists along with soldiers of Pak Army.

Indian Army eliminated 19 hardcore terrorists in the recent months of July and August along the Line of Control and in the hinterland of J&K. The effective counter infiltration grid on the Line of Control has ensured 17 infiltration bids foiled this year resulting in killing of a total of 13 hardcore Pak trained terrorists. The numbers of such attempts have doubled this year in comparison to the corresponding period of 2012. Pak Army’s desperation is also evident in the substantial increase in the number of Cease Fire Violations this year. There have been 57 Cease Fire Violations this year which is almost 80% more than the violations last year.

and thats the main issue.

who did it? who is at fault?

depends who do you want to listen to

why would you listen to India?

well because Pakistan is already discredited, unreliable, its foreign relations in complete tatters.

Hang on

does that make India right?

well NO, because Pakistan being unreliable doesnt retrospectively mean India is right because Indian claim & Pakistan's image are mutually exclusive.

then why should India make that claim?

to further push Pakistan to the corner, further discredit it. exhaust it further while its already dealing with an insurgency in the entire country. AND find another good reason to capture and execute Pakistani soldiers or civilians.

so you are saying Indian military (with or without Dehli's approval) cooked up this whole thing because it doesnt want peace talks?

possible, because it has shown in the past that its not really keen to settle disputes since Pakistan is in a very bad way so push it further for maximum possible gains.

wait, are you now suggesting that no such incident happened?

No, it might have happened but not to an extent Indians are claiming.

oh come on, you are now playing the Pakistan victim card.

No not really, just pointing at various possibilities due to our mutual past experience.

So what are other possibilities?
Pakistan army might have conducted an operation but why?

To put the national attention back to Kashmir
The Kashmir issue unites the nation and specially puts the attention of religious fanatics and their militant wings back to Kashmir, relieving pressure on Pakistan. Other possibility is that Pak military might also be against the peace talks.

Ya its just an assumption, just like an assumption that Indian army cooked it all up and is against the peace moves.

BUT

One thing is for certain

And what is that?

Indians will settled the score by X2 and then play it to its nation. It always works
Good for corporate media rating, good for the government and good for the national patriotic mood.

Is there anyone in your beautiful nation who doesnt buy the conspiracy theory crap?

Coz i am from the state of Jammu and kashmir and my village is not very far from where this happened and this just gives me a good laugh.

Human psychology is really interesting...People live in denial to be in the right side always.

We have a Mujahideen regiment?:what:

if they mean Mujahid force then thats a joke of the year
those people are part time soldiers who are only good for second or third line force maintaining peace and manning installations and infrastructure during emergency. they are only better than our police. they are in no way in a shape to confront Indian regular forces

I know them up close I dont mean any disrespect to them but they are like partisans who have other civilian jobs but are called for like 5 or 6 moths duty a year which helps them economically as well.

they are recruited in infantry and air defence batteries
