Pakistan's "Mother Teresa" Harrased in US

Come on man. We are so stupid we should be aware that the word "Terrorist" is only reserved for Muslims. The IRA, FARC, LTTE, Zionists, Shiv Sina, and other non-Muslims organizations are not called terrorist organizations, they are call seperatists, rebels, gurellas and etc but not terrorists, this word is only reserved for Muslims.

Shiv Sena is political party who says they are seperatists or gurellas? Though even I do not like their policies...

You are right they are not seperatists or gurellas, they are terrorist organization, but since it has no Muslims in it they are not called terrorists.

First of all Mr. Edhi is not well know personality out side Pakistan, may be very respected in Pakistan.

Second, this is true that any typical Mullah looking people are suspected as destabilizes in Europe and US air port. Problem is, air port security has be very tight and in this scenario there always be chances that someone feel harassed.

But the kind of questions he has been asked by US authorities, its looks they know him very well. Question like why you came so frequently in US?

Hope if Mr. Edhi has concern only with social work, then he will be given back his passport ASAP.

Edhi gets back his passport

By Masood Haider

NEW YORK, Jan 30: US immigration authorities have returned the passport of prominent social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi and issued a new green card.

Mr Edhi said on Wednesday that he would head home some time next week. He thanked Pakistan’s print and electronic media for highlighting his plight.

According to a Pakistan Embassy official, Mr Edhi has been advised by the US authorities to stay ‘longer’ the next time he visits the country so that his green card and American citizenship issues can be resolved.

Mr Edhi’s new green card is valid for only one year, even though normally there is a 10-year limit.

Giving an interview to Dawn after collecting his travel documents from the authorities at the JFK airport, he thanked Pakistan’s New York consulate, embassy in Washington and the Foreign Office in Islamabad for helping him out.

The US immigration authorities had confiscated Mr Edhi’s passport and green card on his arrival in New York on Jan 10, saying that the green card was obsolete and an investigation would be launched into his trust. The homeland security office had also issued a date for hearing on Feb 20.

But following the outcry over the situation in the media, the US authorities relented and handed over Mr Edhi his papers.

Mr Edhi said: “I have to settle some issues before returning to Pakistan next week”.

There is the concept of innocence until proven guilt. Revoking someone's citizenship (or harrassing them) based on what they look like doesn't sound very tolerant to me.

There no is concept of tolerance in GWOT. Any body suspected in terrorism will have to go through rigorous procedures. Though many times person can be innocent, like take case of Indian Muslim doctor in Australia who was accused for participating in plotting Bomb in London but he was innocent.

Well, its their country and its them ( USA ) who decide that who enters and who leaves. Thousands of common Pakistanis, Saudis , Egyptians , Malaysians and people from all over the muslim world still enter US every month. No doubt that Visa procedures have become stringent since 9/11 but it hasn’t stopped muslims entry in US. So please don’t turn this thread into another Islamic world vs US thread.

Why Edhi was stopped, there must be some reason that we might not know yet. Road Runner mentioned one in his first post, and it can be possibly the reason. Like any othr Pakistani ,I am also pissed that when they needed our bases, we gave them--whenever they needed our airspace, we let them use it----when they the support and help of our armed forces , we let them have it...and in future whatever they demand, they will probably get it . Cen we dare say them NO ? I dont think so. After doing everything possible for them , we are still being treated with suspicion and probably from now on ,will always be treated this way. Lets get used to it. :tsk:

The Indian medic in Australia was not racially profiled. He was related to one of the terrorists, and he exchanged some messages on text or something. There was very weak evidence, but some evidence was there. If someone is questioned because they happen to look like someone, that is profiling, and it's wrong. No if about it.
