Pakistan's Economy: What Pakistan's youth can do about it?

There is a disturbing trend in our trade eco-system - our trade deficit is increasing. Our imports continue to rise and exports are either not increasing or declining in various sectors. As a sub-units of Pakistan, I often think where we're going. An imbalance in eco-system, like the one we're facing, can be chronic and can impede our economy severely.

So, the question is: can we do something to improve our economy - I know everyone is doing whatever they can, but there is potential for much more. If we, the constituents of Pakistan, start working together, give up the individualism and bring back the nationhood; we can achieve this.

Can we do that? Are there still the great people among us? What do you think?

PS: I can understand in case of necessities individual interest comes first, practically not possible for them to contribute to society but I would say these are the only people with highest level of patriotism.

nothing is going to happen till thier is clean up of all corruption, no oversea accounts, banned dollar, throw multi national corporation. banned western food and drink, it make you diabetic quickly.
move towards solar/water/wind power and for large projects coal power. i mean we have to produce all this at home. education free for all at high school and reformed at all levels.
dissolve all parties their is only one party, reform judiciary system, no vip culture, all fifthy books movies including fictional, speculation to be erased out. government to civilians shares in industry/busssines.
barter factories as payment.

I think I used the wrong word: youth. I wanted to change title later but didn't find any way. Of course, the youth should be investing more and more time in education and skill building instead of worrying about these things. I think youth was not my audience and used the wrong word. I'm talking about people of my age 25-40; the people who already have either reasonable or good education and job etc. It is more about utilizing personal capacity. But, given the constraints we belong to lower middle or middle class, have families to take care, yet also want to do something for nation. How can we do that? Does any else feels like they/should be contributing something towards society and nation as well?

I personally think, I should be doing more than that but somehow there is circle that I'm unable to break. I'm sure there are plenty of people around who also want to contribute towards nation but are constrained same way.

The 25-40 bracket has a very different issue that may explain your unbreakable circle. By the time they are successful, they have become part of the same system that you seek to break. The misfits leave. The rest suffer.

The electricity if is given to the Pakistani people i am sure they can make the Pakistan Asian Tiger just in few years. Pakistani youth have a great energy but due to our political culture and menace corruption in every department the youth has devastated. Due to continuous terrorism and political instability have brought numerous social issues and the youths have gone in depression. Openly merit violation and poor education system Pakistan is not getting the progress. So first we should bring the electricity in the country later quality education may be focused.

We need a leader and system ! We need "Made In Pakistan" approach !!!!!!!! We need more public awareness !!!!!! Better Technical and IT institutes !!!!!!!!!!! Better Nursing and other Medical related Institutions !!!!!!!!!!!!
We are agriculture country so we also have to focus on that !!! Better agriculture Institutions !!! We are importing Billion $$$$ Tea , but in realty if we use our Northern Ares we can bring it down are even make it 0000 ..
We have almost 0000 % shear in Hallal Food Market we can do better there.................
Our youth is our power we need proper planning for them ,,,, we can train them in different fields and send them abroad , we can use manpower as industry !!!!!!!!!!! We need better Human Resource development system or industry .
I am not against Shabaz Sharif Laptop scheme but he spent 30 billion Rupees on Laptops Import , think what we can do with those 30 billions.

Sorry but most of the things you're talking about are our own doings. But all of these are too broad things for individuals - we can change our own mind but changing mind of other require greater influence and larger network and massive community of individual working towards same goals.

Yes, this is big concern.
Our annual oil and petrochemical imports amount to $10 Billion annually on average. You can see, we've given up the use of mass transit. Instead we're using more and more private transport like cars and motor bikes. We can save this exchange by changing pattern.

Next is machinery and electronics and our area of interest: we're not making most of our electronics in Pakistan and we're not producing machinery at all. Annual machinery and electronics imports are around $8 Billion. By each coming year, we're falling behind in terms of technology. We used to many electronics sometime ago either under licence or individually. Our focus should on creating these things at home. And not only that, there are countless other things we importing from other countries while we can produce them ourselves.

But how can we do that? I think we've sufficient talent however these things are beyond individual capacity and that is why we need team work here. I think pooling resources and skills are only answer, but only great hurdle is cooperation and team work. How can we build team spirit?

Yes, you're right, it is true electricity shortage is a real concern in our community and have affected various industries especially SMEs but most of the time industrial units are equipped with their own power generation systems and that is one of the reason of increase in demand of petrochemicals. We can save some forex once we start producing enough electricity for home based resources but it will not solve all problems. The real problem we're facing is technological fall and brain drain. If it continued we'll become Asian "Billi" instead

Sorry bro. I think we have have huge difference in our thoughts. For me I think this is people of make nations, govts, systems. I don't believe in being controlled by others, I believe in striving for my own destiny and making the trends. I understand, what you've mentioned is real phenomenon. People have reduced our thinking to only that views and that is why we're not progressing and largely depending on others.
