The predators for all their high tech gadgets.. usually go down by themselves due to numerous software and technical faults..(although that is the price for pushing the envelope).
For a Burraq(once its capabilities are known).. to be able to operate in an environment where it will have to face low level SAM's such as igla's and mobile SAM's.. it will be difficult to operate effectively.
This ratio will probably reduce once UCAV's become more common.
UCAV's are probably better off doing the more impersonal tasks..
like striking reserves.. or harassment of supply convoys..
CAS is still a very personal game.. only recently has the radio link issue with the PAF been solved..The pilot coming in for the bomb run needs to know what and where to hit...and while that can be true for a big expensive UCAV.. with enough electronic gadgetry to keep it alive during that time..
I am a little skeptical of the usefulness of a predator like UCAV flying in an area festooned with mobile SAM's and AAA of the advanced variety.
However.. with something like the X-45.. or even an unmanned F-16.. it is possible to provide acceptable CAS.
Jigs highlighted a main issue of operating UCAV's in a high threat environment..
Which means then.. that the UCAV's would need escort.. and you just put a person at risk again.. and lots of expense.
Eventually.. its going to be a very very very hostile environment for aircraft flying in a combat airspace.and LO may not be all that is going to cut it.. which is why.. the Americans are already looking for the 6th gen..
Think point defense lasers to take out incoming missiles and artillery fire..
It is all going to be very Sci Fi..
