I don't think transperency is as much a problem that people here are making out to be. I am sure the US has more than ample tools at its disposal to look closely at whats happening in SWAT. There is no reason for Holbrooke to be entering a warzone, his job is assesing whats happening in our part of the world and that assesment can be done with the many journalists and military officials who are on the front lines instead of him going in there and jeopardizing the safety and security of security personel as well as other high ranking officials.
Ambassadors don't go right in the middle of a warzone to 'assess things' and even if he did what exactly is he going to assess there? would he even have enough time to be walking around with a 100 security personal in Mingora and Swat regions by foot? What type of assessment would he do if you were to just fly over SWAT for like two hours... nothing.. might as well just stay in your hotel and let the journalists and military personel who have been there for months do the assessment and hand you in the report.
