Pakistanis are democratic in nature, support functional democracy
LAHORE: Prof Dr Farooq Hasnat, an eminent scholar from the Middle East Institute, USA, said on Wednesday that the mandate given by the people of Pakistan to the democratic forces in the recent elections had changed the political image of Pakistan at the international level.
According to a press release, Dr Hasnat said this in a meeting with Punjab University (PU) Centre for South Asian Studies Director Prof Dr Muhammad Saleem Mazhar.
He said that the international community had realised that Pakistanis were democratic in nature and had demonstrated their will for a functional democracy by rejecting the orthodox and non-democratic elements of society. He highlighted internal and external political issues, particularly the post-election scenario in Pakistan. Later, Dr Mazhar presented the latest publications of the centre to the guest. Faculty members of the centre were also present on the occasion.
PU faculty members participate in world seminar in India: PU Oriental College faculty members Dr Ziaul Hassan and Dr Nasir Abbas Nayyar have represented the PU at a four-day world seminar on Urdu Inshayia Rawayat aur Amkanat held at the Central University of Hyderabad, Deccan (India). Dr Ziaul Hassan read out his research paper on Pakistani Urdu Inshayia After 1980, and Dr Nasir Abbas Nayyar on Inshayia Ki Shairyat Aur Irtiqaa: Aik Baz Deed. The participants of the seminar appreciated the research papers presented by the PU faculty members.
Workshop on leadership skills: PU Centre for Clinical Psychology (CCP) organised a workshop on What does it take to lead? at the New Campus on Wednesday. A consultant clinical psychologist and organisational consultant from the UK, Dr Amra Rao, was the resource person of the workshop. She delivered a comprehensive lecture on leadership: its challenges, tasks and functions.
