Russian hegemony in Central Asia is legacy of imperialism and thus aberration then a normative. Like European tide has receded everywhere (like British in South Asia) so will the Russians. Central Asia within Russian orbit is as unnatural as Balkans being lumped with Asia.

China is the power that is going to prevail in Central Asia.This will happen first in the economic fold and then followed by military alliances. Chinese economic ingress has already began on huge scale. Chinese Sinkiang Province in particular cities like Kashgar and even more so Urumchi are now powerhouses of Chinese influence into Central Asia. The Chinese are going suck all the gas and oil out of Central Asia as their demand grows and in return they arte going to flood the region with consumer products. Central asia is going to be Chinese Central Asia in the future. We South Asian's talk big but do little. The Indian's in particular have the biggest shout. To quote Plato "An empty vessel makes the loudest sound" so we should not buy too much into their bluster about Iran and Chah Bahar etc. It's all distilled bull*shite and the Iranian's know it. Look below and you will see the Chinese have already haf carved the region.

Iran and Pakistan can fit into this economic order seamlessly. The only stumbling block is Afghanistan but I think if Iran and Pakistan cooperate they can overcome this problem providing they show maturity. This again is going to be prodded along by Chinese soft pressure.

Play this right and Pakistan again could be part of the great old Silk route. Let the Indian's mollycuddle Bangladesh, play ball with Sri Lanka, hug Nepal and let them milch the useless SAARC. And what is Pakistan going to export to the Central Asian Republics? If they are low value goods like they most likely are, then the cost of transportation will be more than the cost of the items themselves!!

However, making a deeper penetration in the Central Asian food market is possible. But for this to happen, an uninterrupted availability of exportable surplus is a must, and that cannot occur without sustainable growth in per-acre yield of farm produce. The other exports are low value goods and thus the question is, would these exports be viable considering the transportation costs in spite of the low oil prices? How much profit would the manufacturers/exporters make?

Its just that they cannot export enough plus there is rising competition from Bangladesh and Nepal!

And you know looking at the roads that connect us with Central Asia/China I was circumspect that this thing would go anywhere despite those countries being stones throw away. For most of Central Asia is closer to Islamabad then Kolkatta in India and lot of it is closer than New Delhi. However because Central Asia was taken over by Russia and we were taken over by British in a sense we got divided by a iron curtain for the last 150 years. We use English as second language they use Russian as second language. All our transport systems built by British connected us to India/Bangladesh. All Central Asian transport systems built by Russians connected them to Russia. However all along Central Asia is our neighbour. Now as CPEC takes off suddenly those roads are improving by year and within decade you will be able to drive along fine highways to these countries where only dirt tracts existed before. Look at the improvement already below on some sections of KKH. This is only the start.
