Pakistani spy agency ISI trying to revive Sikh militancy in Punjab: Sushilkumar Shinde
NEW DELHI: India on Wednesday said that the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI was trying to revive Sikh militancy in Punjab.
Addressing chief ministers here at a Conference on Internal Security, the Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde said there were reports which clearly indicated that the ISI was trying to revive Sikh militancy by providing training to militants in its facilities in Pakistan.
He said the interrogation reports of those arrested by police over the past several months and the country's own intelligence pointed the ISI footprints in Punjab where the Pakistani spy agency had tried to pump in arms, ammunition and explosives including deadly RDX for the Sikh militant groups.
Home minister said that though the situation in Jammu and Kashmir was improved a bit last year, there was no need to be complacent as the country continued to face threats from '******' groups.
He noted that the terror training camps were still intact in neighbouring country. He said though there were reports that the number of terror training camps in ******************-Kashmir (***) had been reduced from 42 to 21, it needs to be verified.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and national security advisor Shivshankar Menon were also present in the ongoing Conference.
