MUZAFFARABAD: A soldier of Pakistan Army embraced martyrdom in the Neelum Valley of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) in unprovoked firing by Indian troops from across the Line of Control (LoC), the military’s media affairs wing said on Tuesday.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the Indian army troops resorted to unprovoked firing in Shahkot sector along the LoC in Neelum valley with heavy weapons.

“Pakistan army responded effectively, targeting those [Indian] posts which had initiated fire and inflicted heavy losses on enemy in terms of men and material,” added the ISPR.

It said that during the exchange of fire, the brave 20-year-old soldier embraced martyrdom while valiantly responding to Indian ceasefire violation.

The ISPR identified the martyr as Sepoy Wajid Ali, resident of Dadu district in Sindh.

Military sources told Dawn that the ceasefire violation was committed by the Indian troops late on Monday night.

The heavily militarised LoC splitting the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir between nuclear-armed neighbours Pakistan and India has been witnessing ceasefire violations quite frequently in a serious breach of a truce agreement signed by both sides in November 2003.

Meanwhile, while paying tribute to the martyred soldier in a statement, AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider said that the sacrifices of Pakistan Army personnel and Kashmiris would not go in vain.

When the f16 pilot gets so much publicity while practicing, why is this guy not even acknowledged in this defence forum, when he died on the border ?

Because many injun soldiers are sent to hell in return fire.

My point was that the ignoring of this Pakistani soldier's death in sniper fire is discriminatory. He was actually doing his duty. Just because he is no hotshot pilot, his death should not be ignored.

All of our soldiers, airmen and sailors are our pride, they and their families are precious to us.

How many Indian pilots who have died in crashes have received respect from Indians? NONE because they dont care!

the poor bastards in that indian post who initiated the firing on our brave soldier should've heeded to gandhi's advice...too late for them now that they've been barbecued.

who said we're ignoring his sacrifice? All of our boys in uniform are hotshots for us. this isn't india where soldiers killed in action are labelled as having been killed due to negligent accidents and therefore no retirement for the families.

Dumb saying, only fit for a fantasy world. In the real world, if you don't fight back, only the attacker remains with both eyes whereas the attacked will eventually lose more than just sight.

Gandhi hardly believed in whatever he used to say for political purposes. We shall not forget that attack and occupation of Kashmir, by India, was fully supported by this hypocrite messenger of nonviolence.

That's Indian for you. They pretend to be peaceful while actively supporting and funding terrorism in the region. We must never forget what they have done to our country and continue to do so.
