We should make this amply clear to pakistan... their act of hatred will be reciprocated and so will be their act of kindness. Also, I India should not start any kind of inhuman/act of hatred first, but should not take even a second look in retaliating in the same way. An eye for an eye make world blind but otherwise only you will be blind and the enemy can see fully well....
I am sad to see such anarchy on both side of the border. There is something "Rights of Prisoner" for which Bhagat Singh and his friends did hunger strike for so many days.
Do we have control over it? I too believe lives are important, either pakistani or Indian. But letting the atrocity on Indians continue without any repercussion is pure non-sense. When they know there will be retaliations, they will stop or else, they will carry-on with impunity and brag about it too...I would believe we are much better than that - as @fateh71 said - we need better enemies.

Pakistani prisoner lodged in Kot Bhalwal central jail of Jammu, has been attacked by some other prisoners. In hospital. Serious. In ICU. In jail for 17 yrs.
Cycle of hate
Sarbjhit has admited his crime for Bombing in Pakistan in which 13 Pakistani,s lost there life
What was Sanaullah,s Crime ?
hanging sarbjit was far better than killing him in a gruesome way......
That is where most people go wrong. You were right if it were one-off incident, but it is not, it is systematic. If we don't react exactly, they will start thinking we are week. Why would they stop repeating this type of thing? We have this over and over and over, they do something stupid and when we talk civil, no solution and when we retaliate, everything cools down. It is just showing them that we can and will go down to their level if we are forced to do so.... do you have any other solution? It's the nature and the counter reactions that matter - It's restricting one self from going to someone else's level and we doing what they have done, which is what they want in the first place to happen as a reaction.

This is not about showing that we are better than them... it is about saving live and human dignity... it is ironic and sad but it works... have you ever done that type of thing with dog or cat? well I have and after couple of times, the dog know who is the master and won't bark at me anymore...Again, one is talking of going to a dog's level on our knees and barking along with it - one can be better than that and of course there are plenty of options. This incident doesn't really leave anything to say that we are better than them.

Can you assure no other Indian prisoner will be mis-treated by not doing anything? There is a well established natural principle of survival. When interacting with another individual, first be nice. Then on-wards, just reciprocate what he/she does..these is how individual survives in a society and those who are too nice (be nice no matter what the other person does) and too bad (be bad no matter what the other person does) will be pushed towards extinction...No never tried that, but then showing a dog who's master can be done in multiple ways and what you prescribe - honestly never heard of anyone doing that, and how can you assure that this incident will not jeopardize lives of other Indian prisoners in Pakistan? - and the point that we have to show them does not exist - we have to show ourselves that we are better than them - but in this particular case that opportunity has passed.
