On 7th December 1972, NASA launched it's last Moon mission by sending Apollo-17, which created several records. The Three Astronauts took four days to reach the Moon, after which they remained on the Moon surface for Three days. They spent 22 Hours walking on the Lunar surface. During this period they covered some 35 Km area and collected 110 Kg of Moon rocks and finally returned to earth on 19th December.
The Three Astronauts in 1973, paid a goodwill visit to Pakistan and received a rousing welcome in Karachi.
They met and held discussions with members of SPARCO team and presented a Pakistani flag which they took to Moon along with a Moon rock to then Pakistan PM Z.A. Bhutto. Pakistan's flag was amongst 135 countries who were part of NATO or another treaty in American camp, whose flags were taken to Moon by Apollo-17 which remined on the Moon for three days.
Today these priceless items gifted by NASA are on display in the Karachi Museum.
