Pakistani female skiers bag medals in South Asian Winter Games

ISLAMABAD: Skiers Ifrah Wali and Amina Wali of Pakistan Army secured gold and sliver medals respectively in the Giant Slalom event of skiing in the South Asian Winter Games.

Amina Wali and Ifrah Wali first girl skiiers belonging to Naltar Valley (Gilgit Baltistan province of Pakistan) represent Pakistan Army and had also won National Women’s and Children Skiing Championship in 2009


South Asian Winter Games held at Town of Auli (Uthakhand Sate of India) from 10-16 January 2011. SAARC countries including India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka participated in the Games.



27 Members of Pakistan contingent included officials and athletes, participated in these games. Skiers of Pakistan Army Miss Ifrah Wali and Miss Amina Wali secured Gold and Silver Medal in Giant Slalom of skiing respectively. Amina Wali also got silver medal in Slalom event of ski. This was the first ever medal won by any female Athlete for Pakistan in South Asian Games for ski event.

Auli

Auli is one of the most beautiful hill station in north India, situated in Uttarakhand state. It is 3050 meters above from the sea level and comes in Chamoli district of Uttaranchal (now Uttarakhand). The steep slopes of Auli seem to beckon all the adventure seekers. It’s covered by snow during December to February
