Your average Pakistani has a very romantic, almost filimi thoughts on Chinese. When and if there is mass scale interaction there is going to be serious and I mean some serious shock and somebody is going to have to make a compromise. A distant relatives son in Pakistan got a place in a prestigious university in UK. I went to pick him up from airport and ferried him to his university apartment which was a shared facility taken up by three Chinese students. Oh the fun I had listening to him. He lasted three weeks and found another place. What drove him up the wall -

• they ate pork morning, evening, night.
  
• they ate it by snorting it. Literally making sucking/snorting sounds as they guzzed up the food.
• the smell was terrible
• they drank often and got drunk real easy and became hyperactive.
• the girls walked semi-naked

There is real culture clash.

*but to qualify were very friendly.

It's not just with the Chinese it's with all our allies the Turks,Arabs,Azerbaijanis and what not the reason both of us have subtle views or indifferent views towards foreigners is we grew up with them in the 2nd gen abroad eg-US/UK the Government does a bad job at differentiate state to state relations and people to people our state to state with China,Azerbaijan and Turkey are good but people to people we are different I mean you gave a good example of a aquentence of yours in the UK I had many interactions with Chinese and Turks in the states they were pretty good but they don't know us I think we know more useless facts about China and Turkey than a average Chinese or Turk like will Chinese guy in Beijing, Urumqi(closest Chinese city to Pakistan btw), Shanghai or Guangzhou care about Pakistan doubt same with Turkish guy in Istanbul,Izmir,or Ankara care about us doubt you see our people need to understand the difference between state to state and people to people

Wine, no problem. Pork would be tad 'testing' but I would be cool. I don't judge you by what you eat, or your religion or lack of religion. I have met some very nice people who are athiest, yet some who are hidious and Muslim. Man is important, not what he was born into.

But I am not typical of your average Pakistani.

I don't eat pork in front of him and his family. We even don't cook pork when he is invited home. But i make sure he and his family cooperates when I drink wine.

As an electrical engineer, Max brought his technical knowhow to the project, but as a Pakistani, he also acted as a "middle man." Familiar with the local transport operation, he could quickly coordinate between the two sides if there were any problems or queries. He also helped with translating instructions on the train.

This bright young man will have a excellent future. Not only showing his technical capability as an engineer, he has shown a great deal of interpersonal skills and the willingness to go way beyond his role in order to get the whole project a success. This is the kind of people whom will be highly valued and sought after by major Chinese and Pakistani enterprises. Well done!

It's nice that more educated Pakistani work in China. They are welcome to stay a while or lifetime! I think that these people could tell Pakistani what Chinese really are.
