Pakistani chief ministers pay almost no tax

Wednesday, 22 December 2010

ISLAMABAD: The chief ministers of Pakistan’s four provinces, who have reportedly given their assent for the imposition of the Reformed General Sales Tax, pay almost zero income tax, a fact they admitted in their sworn affidavits submitted to the Election Commission of Pakistan before the 2008 elections.

While Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Haider Hoti disclosed having not paid a single penny, their counterparts in Sindh and Balochistan, Qaim Shah and Aslam Raisani, respectively, said they had paid the tax, but the amounts mentioned are ridiculous.

The Sindh chief minister said he had paid Rs225 as income tax. Raisani paid Rs1,492 as income tax the year he became the province’s chief minister.

. . . .
because they are gov employees, i thought tax would have been deducted directly from their salaries?

. . . . . .
I may be wrong but most of the public representatives(i.e.MNA,CM,PM etc) have taxfree salaries and other free facilities like housing ,phone, electricity etc.

. . .
No majority pays indirect taxes even the Mosques are paying TV tax now imagine how much percentage of Pakistanis pay taxes.

Only elites dont pay and you can figure out their precentage

I think he was talking about income tax.

Thats a good point... Income tax is just one tax... Everytime one buys a product on the market there is an amount that goes into Taxes!!!
