Pakistan will turn into 'Technological Superpower' in 10 years, says Fawad

Never say never

But I will withdraw word superpower out of it

Pakistan needs an IT startup program similar to what Israel implemented in the 90's. Govt puts up 500 million USD, and allows IT startups all over Pakistan access to these funds as equity in their companies. Govt will be able to buy up equity in IT unicorns all over the nation. 10 years down the line the companies could buy back the Govt share allowing the govt to make a profit while at the same time providing venture capital funds to future applications that can go multinational or even global, eventually the profit the govt makes it reinvests in this scheme for new startups and so on... There is a huge market in Pakistan, Middle East, North Africa, China, etc...

Israel started off with this initial govt investment of only 100 million lead to the govt make 15 billion in just profit within a few years. Today they are ahead of even silicon valley in startup per capita.

Start from 4:11 for what the Israeli govt did.

This is basically what I have been saying for the past few week. Pakistan needs to invest at least $500-million to $1-billion a year on strategic technologies the next decade to have a fair shot of competing globally and taking its economy to another level. Basically set ~$200-million to keep new promising startups afloat and buy equities and spending roughly the same amount buying shares in international startups; finally a similar amount should be spent on research and development.

People might say that Pakistan doesn’t have the money for such initiatives; but Pakistan is finding $6-9 billion a year to waste on defunct state owned enterprises such as PIA, Pakistan Steel Mills, Pakistan Railways etc. it’s is question of priority.

Id prefer this route rather than relying on US for H1B "Consulting" services :D

Pakistan has some very interesting and advanced startups that have a potential to go global. We should also take advantage of the huge chinese mobile market nextdoor. A chinese centric mobile application can have upto a Billion downloads just imagine that. Hell an application that can gain a majority market share in Pakistan would be valued in the billions.

Pakistan has number of startups that are going or will go unicorn soon. We all saw how Uber bought Careem for $3.6 billion, Zameen/EMPG is now valued over a billion and few others. Others will follow too.

The PTI gangs will not like this; but other than transforming the energy sector in Pakistan, the PML did an admirable creating tech incubator centers across Pakistan and helped startups flourish. Now is the chance for PTI to take this momentum to the next level. The President’s artificial intelligence initiative is admirable but we need to see results rather than phantom numbers.

If the govt really wants to be ahead in 10 year time they need to focus on the following investments

- 500 Million to invest in IT startup incubators with govt funded equity.
- Investment in 5G technology for future IOT applications (on going?)
- Investment in high technology sectors such as 5th generation aircraft/UAV/Aerospace that can have applications in the civilian IT sector (ongoing)
- 300 million Investment in data-centers to be able to provide Cloud applications hardware resources. This would support the development/deployment of ML & AI applications in the future similar to AWS, AZURE, GOOGLE CLOUD, ETC..
-CPEC provides the perfect opportunity for the Govt to establish Special technology zones were Chinese can settup manufactering for Cell phone, Laptops, etc... these can be used in our domestic market and even exported. Indian-Chinese trade war and souring relations is a perfect chance for Pakistan to grab Chinese manufacterurs that are leaving India.
- A program be developed to provide cheap manufactered in Pakistan laptop to every student above grade 7 in Pakistan. We dont have funds or resources to provide every student but we can target cities and ages that are most likely to benefit and learn ie students above grade 7+ in Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta, Karachi, etc... settup a pilot project in a few cities and test this out.
-I read the over the day if the govt licenses out all the satellite networks that have commercial access in Pakistan they could make 700 million USD in a few years that can be reinvested in SUPARCO! this needs to be done ASAP

All that I have listed would cost the govt less than 1 billion USD in a single year (5 billion USD if done over 5 years) - 700 million govt would make from satellite commercialization. So about 4.3 billion USD stimulus for the Tech sector would generate over hundred billion in industries within a decade.

We have cheap labor and with enough investment can build industry that can tender to our own needs initially and later might even be able to export these products. This is a good initiative bcz most startups need specific incentives and a direction to achieve a progressing business. Inshallah we can achieve it if there is enough will for it at govt level.

Man I wish we were but realistically not so but we have loads of Pakistanis that are good at IT if not better than the H1B Indians but Pakistani Government and Qaum are super lazy and sadly are contended with stagnation we got China right on our backyard they have a perfect indigenous IT industry and internet ecosystem we need that if there is one thing CPEC should be about is getting next gen infrastructure and communications like 5G instead of boondoggles to show like Motorways and new dual carriageways

Pakistan will turn into 'Technological Superpower' in 10 years, says Fawad
Ali Ahmed Jul 11 2020

Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain has said that his government wants to turn Pakistan into a ‘technology superpower’ in 10 years.

In a series of tweets on Saturday, the federal minister said that under the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the projects of ‘Made in Pakistan’ were adopted by his ministry. “If the projects were not adopted, stuff ranging from sanitizer to masks would either not be found in Pakistan or would have been sold in black markets.”

The minister said that today the country is not only meeting its own requirements but is also minting millions through the exports of these products.

“In the next phase, Health City is being set up on 200 acres of land in Faisalabad and Science and Technology Special Economic Zones will be built in Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad. In these zones, the technology industry and business will get special incentives.”

“Our real goal is to make Pakistan a technology superpower in 10 years,” he said.

Fawad also called upon other multinationals of other countries to invest in Pakistan, offering them tax benefits and location incentives.

“I call upon multinationals of USA, China, Russia, Korea, Japan, and EU to join hands with us rest assure Pakistan will ensure the most competitive environment and most relaxed tax structure for tech business our doors are open,” announced Chaudhry.

It's start from grassroots level. We don't have the education and technology know how to compete with other countries. We need major to push to improve our education system and provide grants to universities for R & D.
I don't understand why government want to over crowd the Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. It should be build outside the city so the area around can be developed.

Pakistan will be superpower right after Qayamat day not before. Pakistan cannot be superpower it has a HUGE problem. It has Pakistanis living in it. Pakistanis don't have a single honest bone in them. From highiest to lowest employee of goverment all crooks and ganda's of different level. Even the chaprasi standing at the gate is a gunda ... you have to pay him to enter and pay to see someone and pay bribe to start your application ... entire educated class ... from is scummy shitty power mad, vengefull, vindictive, uncaring, unhelpfull ... only poor people of villages are decent honest sincere caring hardworking helpfull ... may Allah protect them from education ameen ...

I suggest Pakistani goverment should start issuing licenses for legally killing a educated middle high class Pakistani for price of 25k rupees. This country needs a cull season where foriegners pay money to hunt rich educated goverment employees lasting for three months ... help country kill corrupt people and at the same time goverment earns money.

The biggest problem and cause of corruption in Pakistan is every single Pakistani. Every single one is a scummy and corrupt to core this country has no chance of any success until it becomes fully KAFIR, or imports CHINESE and gives them control of country and all goverment related jobs ... we Pakistanis work and live as their slaves ... watch in no time they will make Pakistan great because Chinese mothers give birth to decent people ... **** mothers give birth to scummy shitty corrupt inhumans.

And same Pakistanis become law abiding people when they are in middle eastern countries or in Western countries, unless they are filthy rich like Zardari.
