Toyota Indus Motor Company (IMC) has picked up pace in achieving vehicle production indigenization. In its recent journalists’ meetup, the company apprised the audience about having gained 65 percent localization of parts.

Toyota IMC claims to have arranged for 30+ technical assistance and technology transfer agreements with foreign companies to procure various technologies and parts.

The company boasts the highest localization rate of all automakers except Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC). In an advertisement, Toyota IMC made a bold claim, stating that:

If you touch the Corolla or Yaris, there is a 90 percent chance that you will touch a locally manufactured part.
While highlighting the cost-breakup, Toyota IMC stated that the vehicle cost is dominated mostly by taxes. It also underlined that better sales also benefit the government in tax collection and that a decline in sales will hurt the government’s revenue.

During the event, Toyota IMC CEO Ali Asghar Jamali stated that the company is ramping up its production to meet the rising demand. It plans to produce over 90,000 vehicles in 2022 with 100 percent efficiency and overtime, he added.

This is still poor btw. In India same Toyota is doing 87% localisation for Yaris model.

Only thing left is TOT of safety belt and air bags.

Yet the increments they do are insane given 40% parts are imported.

The percentages are deceptive and major flaws on initial agreements with these companies. Unless they define how they are calculating this percentage it's just a garbage number 🗑️. India is doing better because it has a stable and broad technical base on the other side Pakistan choose to make a nuclear bomb before making needles and then choose not to use it

First it was imported trash
Now Locally manufactured low quality trash?

In 65 percent localized parts they count each and every item separately so if they import windshield (which is huge and costly) and then locally product a nut-bolt they will claim 50% localization for these two parts.

Seems like the 87% indigenization in India is from 2018. Eventual aim was to move that to 90%. I wonder if they achieved it by now

The latest development was revealed by Shekar Viswanathan, Vice Chairman and Whole Time Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor. While speaking about the impact of the depreciating Rupee value on product launches, Mr. Viswanathan said: “It (localisation) is 87% in the case of level one of Yaris sedan and we can go up to 91-92% in the order of the magnitude.” “We will never be able to achieve 100% as there will be some bit that will always be imported and it is good as well,” he added.

It would be interesting to know what key parts are imported by India and Pakistan for Toyota cars.

So in all these years they only achieved 65 percent localization
