Pakistan is going to unveil new defence and foreign policies soon.

Islamabad, March 5/Nationalturk – In view of continued strained relations with its two important neighbours India and Afghanistan and pulling out of US troops from conflict-hit Afghanistan this year, Pakistan is going to unveil new defence and foreign policies soon.

“The defence and foreign policies would be presented in National Assembly (Pakistan lower house of parliament) within a few weeks,” Adviser to Pakistan Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz told lawmakers.

Underlining the need for integrated policies to steer country out of the prevailing crisis, he said four major areas would be taken care of in these policies.

“Internal security and policy of non-interference, benefiting from geographic location, economic development through trade with minimum dependence on aid and promoting the image of the country shall be the main focused areas,” Aziz said.

‘No country dictating our foreign policy’

Adviser to Pakistan Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and National Security said no other country is dictating Pakistan’s foreign policy and the government has adopted the policy of ‘no favourites’ and ‘non-interference’.

He said both internal and external threats were under consideration while framing the policies. “We were closely monitoring the changing regional and global scenario to ensure that Pakistan was following the policy of non-interference”.

Highlighted the importance of regional cooperation, Aziz said menaces like terrorism cannot be overcome without adopting a regional approach.

Pakistan not providing arms to Syrian rebels

Aziz dispelled impression that Pakistan was providing arms to Saudi Arabia for use by rebels in Syria.

“We are not providing any arms to Saudi Arabia to be used by rebels in Syria,” he said.

Earlier, there were media reports that Pakistan had agreed to transport heavy weapons to Saudi Arabia for being used by rebels against Assad’s forces in Syria.
