Pakistan to Seek Debt Relief From China Belt and Road Loan: Bloomberg

CPEC management should plan on building a transmission line between Xinjiang and Islamabad, and then upgrading and connecting to all the other power stations on the grid.

In this way, excess electricity can be sold back to China and costs can be recovered in a sustainable way for both sides. Ideally, China should convince its labor intensive companies to shift production to Pakistan, but at the moment, due to the pandemic, I presume, they want to keep as many jobs in China, while they refrain workers for higher end work. Labor intensive industries, that take into account the geographical position of Pakistan; a location between Africa and China, should consider value added or just processing work for raw materials coming from Africa.
Excess energy is not the problem. Cost of electricity is. Pakistan can simply not compete with regional players because electricity production here is far too expensive because of corrupt long term contracts.

Help me understand ONE thing. How can a country incur debt if what they are receiving is an investment
Because Khota Biryanis were sold Cpec as a gift from China. It was never told that it was all loans.

I do recall 12 hour load shedding days.
Ofocurse but industries didnt use power for 12 hours either and got close

Textiles cant compete with power prices we offer that are twice the cost of regional players

Now after massive devaluation the cost dropped by 25% in cents(50% devaluation) even not accounting for texetile package

Only sindh industries survived due to gas availability

Second issue no cheap land for new industries

Govt should provide free land for industries by putting industries near shore areas and focusing on service inland

Because if outflows are high they will pressure your rupee

Investment has to generate wealth
A power plant not used isnt generating wealth

This depsite pakistan being in a unique position to add 30% of low cost hydro (1rs) yet our powrt is expensive because our deals were giving return almost 50% higher then regional players

.
PTI Gov is seeking contract renegotiations with Chinese built and operated IPPs. I doubt that we will hear much news about these negotiations.

Khota Biryanis will never understand this because they don't view this higher return as corruption.

People seems to forget, when you sign a contract, you are bound to it. PMLN blindly signed many contracts, without any negotiations or study. They just sign anything that was put in front of them in hoping to get kickbacks. The govt in 2019, cancelled many unnecessary power projects.

Asking the question about CPEC's success, despite the fact that Pakistan has been battling corrupt politicians, seeking their prosecution and these corrupt politicians are using their land mafias, their bank rolled journalists, foreign NGOs and etc. Not forgetting the fact we lost an entire year of 2020 due to a friggin PANDEMIC! We all know how many economies in the West have been gutted by lockdowns, quarantines and what not. Oil Prices went into negative territory, and the Oil Rich Exporting countries actually had budget deficits. And there was 2019, how it began with that country full of primates attacked Pakistan, nearly triggering a full blown war.

It is absurd how some just jump to conclusions in total absence of context, no taking into account seriously damaging events that have taken place in the past two years.

Easy to sit behind a computer screen and type away with full abandonment and judge things. For those who do so, I ask this ..... what have you actually done for Pakistan to merit such judgement?

Get the facts straight .... Either stand to contribute practically to Pakistan's unity, protection and prosperity. Otherwise all that nonsense about CPEC's failure, is just whistling in the wind!

.
How conveniently they ignore IPPs installed in Pakistan from 2008 in PPP government and not a SINGLE IPP was Chinese financed project during that period

People should recall the Term "Raja Rental"

Are the IPPs owned by the West ? I thought most of them were local businessmen with ties to politicians

Load shedding started in 'Amir al momineen' (Zia) days - the gift from USA for fighting their war against USSR in Afghanistan. How USA and EU cooperated to destroy Pakistan's economy.
Now their love to save Pakistan's economy from China is at the apex - if they are so sincere in their efforts rather than writing and voicing their concerns; they should write-off all outstanding loans against Pakistan.

all this debt trap stuff is horseshit. as long as we increase our exports and establish more industries in Pakistan, we can easily repay the loans. also its in China's interest that we stay solvent so we can repay the loans. CPEC is more important to China and central asian countries that it is to us.

Congratulations Pak for achieving surplus... Now load shedding will not be there, companies can work without hinderance...
It can sell power to its neighbours also.
