ISLAMABAD - Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi here Friday said Japanese government had expressed its interest in relocating auto mobile industry to Pakistan aimed at increasing exports to Gulf and adjacent states.

Addressing a press conference, he said Tokyo was engaged with Pakistan after a gap of seven years. The Japanese government intend to skill 65 percent of Pakistani youth in order to sustain economic growth.

The minister said that he visited Sri Lankan High Commission on Friday to pay condolences over the Easter church and hotels attacks. Prime Minister Imran Khan also spoke to his Sri Lankan counterpart and strongly condemned the attacks, he said.

Qureshi said his May 2 visit to Sri Lanka was postponed due to security issues on the request of Sri Lankan Government. However the visit would be rescheduled after the holy month of Ramadan.

He said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress of India had been in a brawl against each other over the failure to link the listing of Masood Azhar with Palwama incident and Kashmir movement.

He said Indian journalist Suhasini while criticizing the Modi government questioned its victory claims in Masood Azahar’s linkage to Palwama attack.

She was of the view that the BJP government had failed to provide evidence to the United Nation's Sanctions Committee.

Responding to a question, he said India had been repeatedly violating the Line of Control (LoC) and killing innocent people, while Pakistan only responded to the Indian unprovoked firing considering safety of the people of Kashmir who embraced martyrdom and got buried in Pakistani national flag.

He reaffirmed that Pakistan would continue to support the people of Kashmir in achieving their right to self determination.

Good, Honda, Toyota etc want to sell cars in Pakistan, let them set-up plants there. Pakistan doesn't need a crazy balance of payments deficit to support. However there need to be supporting industries i.e. the supply chain for this to successful.
With 215 million people, an average age of 22, Pakistan is a massive market.

And this would be the answer to ppl who complained about SMQ going to Tokyo while IK was going to Iran

I hope this work out as envisioned. Large-scale investment from Japan is music to my ears.

I think that’s the idea. You are right. It would be beneficial if the entire(or a major part of it) supply chain is located locally. Should help local industries thrive. I also want that the trash these companies sell here, is replaced with better quality stuff. Currently these companies are robbing us blind while giving us tin cans in return.

I had heared in one of programs of Haroon Rasheed that a Japanese delegation was here for a very strategic investment around 4bln $, but one of the ministers messed it up and they left disappointed.
I dont know if SMQ went back to repair the damages?

News about foreign investments in the auto sector should be taken with a pinch of salt. We've been hearing of such news for decades but there have been hardly any developments on the ground.

We should have reached out to Japan decades ago. Their industrial tech is highly efficient. It was Japanese industrial tech, investment, and loans that allowed many parts of Asia to boom.

Compete transfer of auto technology to Pakistan including some r&d.
