Well - do read that Commons paper - it's written with full access to UK National Archive access and draws on plenty of colonial-era documentation to support what I posted - that the line was never intended to be an international border as we understand it today and that it was practically forced on them by the British, fresh from their victory in the Second Afghan War. In fact the signatory from the Afghan side - Amir Abdur Rahman Khan - was invited by Lord Lytton (viceroy) to come back from exile and take over the political leadership in Afghanistan so his strength to resist was minimal. Like many of the rulers of the princely states who were little more than British dependents Rahman Khan was accorded a bunch of ceremonial British honours, given a GCSI, gun salute in a bid to keep him mollified. This arrangement suited the British nicely as annexation of Afghanistan would draw a sharp response from Tsarist Russia.

The border was ratified several times by Afghan rulers. Whole world considers it an international borders. Even UK itself calls durand line to be an international border.

Pakistan’s stance is supported by all countries of the world, including USA. In 1949, two years after independence of Pakistan, the British House of Commons officially reconfirmed their position declaring that the Durand Line was the legal border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. The following year in 1950, the Queen of England also recognized that the Durand Line was Pakistan’s international western border according to international law.

Pakistan already has the territory. Nobody cares what Afghanistan says.

Pakistan will make sure everything for its safety and in the best interest of the nation however, rival can try as much as want to but things are not going to be the wish of enemy. The subject is discussed on diplomatic level with authenticity and careful evaluation of the facts hence, Pakistan is making everything possible for better future of both countries however, areas highlighted could remain the dream of anyone to take back.

A subject of the past does not carry any weight to discuss current strategic affairs. Thread closed.
