India beat Pakistan 23-11 in kabaddi
INCHEON: Defending champions India defeated Pakistan 23-11 in their third and final league tie of the 17th Asian Games Kabaddi Tournament at Songodo Gymnasium here on Tuesday. India, who are ruling the sport since it was launched in 1990 Beijing Asiad, dominated the first period against their archrivals due to some brilliant tactics. India gained a healthy 17-4 lead in the first half. Though Pakistan fought back in the second half but could not overhaul India’s lead. Pakistan skipper Nasir Ali led his team from the front with seven points while Ibrar Hussain scored five points. Pakistan will be facing last Asiad’s silver medallists Iran in Thursday’s (tomorrow) semifinals while gold medal fight will be contested the following day.
Rugby: Hong Kong thrashed minnows Pakistan by a big margin of 72-0 in their opening group match of the 17th Asian Games Rugby Tournament at Namdong Asiad Rugby Field here on Tuesday. Pakistan players lacked required technique, tactics and power and were overwhelmed by Hong Kong in two sessions of the game. Hapless Pakistan were also routed by China 48-0 in their second match of the day. Pakistan will meet Philippines in their third league match on Wednesday (today).
Volleyball: Taiwan defeated Pakistan 3-0 in volleyball at Songnim Gymnasium here on Tuesday. Pakistan will now face Saudi Arabia in a classification match for 11th-12th position on Wednesday (today) at the same venue.
Boxing: Pakistan’s pugilist Sanaullah was defeated by Namhyeong Park of South Korea in the 91kg heavyweight quarterfinal bout at Seonhak Gymnasium here on Tuesday.
