Islamabad, Feb 2, IRNA -- Pakistan foreign ministry spokesperson says Iran's port of Chabahar and Pakistani port of Gwadar are complementary to each other.
Muhammad Faisal, while responding to a question at his weekly news briefing in Islamabad on Friday, said that both ports are complementary and they should work as such.
He said that a number of Industrial units would be set in Gwadar Economic Free Zone that would generate economic and employment opportunities for the local population. He noted that number of projects have already been initiated at Gwadar.
“Once fully operational Gwadar port will become an international transit hub which will benefit people of Pakistan and more specifically the people of Balochistan,” he said.
He strongly rejected accusations of Pakistan supporting the Afghan Taliban and Haqqani network, and said the country will not allow its land to be used against any of its neighbors. He said Pakistan has been taking action against all terrorist groups in its territory.
“It is our commitment to eradicate terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,” he said.
Pakistan has been rendering continuous sacrifices for the cause of global peace, said the spokesperson. Muhammad Faisal reiterated that focus should be on eliminating safe havens of the TTP, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar in Afghanistan.
“Blaming Pakistan for security lapses inside Afghanistan is unfair,” he said.
Pakistan has constructed 975 posts along its border with Afghanistan, while Afghanistan has built nearly 200 posts only, said Faisal. 470 attacks were carried out in Pakistan from Afghanistan, he said.
The spokesperson noted that the 27 suspects handed over to Afghan authorities recently were in connection to the Afghan Taliban and Haqqani network.
“We want a solution to the Afghan issue in accordance with the wishes of the Afghan public,” the spokesperson said, adding that Pakistan wants immediate and dignified return of Afghan refugees to their country.
He said endless violence in Afghanistan is the real enemy of Afghan. He added that Pakistan is currently hosting 2.7 million Afghan refugees.
The official said some elements in the US are trying to scapegoat Pakistan for their failures in Afghanistan. “Our position is clear that Pakistan will take action against any terrorist found on its soil if actionable intelligence is provided to us,” he said.
In his opening remarks the spokesperson said Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif had visited the Afghan Embassy in Islamabad to convey condolences over the recent terrorist attacks in Kabul resulting in the loss of precious human lives and infrastructure.
“Pakistan affirms solidarity with the people and government of Afghanistan in fighting the menace of terrorism. We feel the pain of our Afghan brothers and sisters,” he said.
