Pakistan Taliban leader says TTP chief is still alive

10:36, April 04, 2010

Pakistan Taliban claimed that their chief Hakimullah Mehsud is still alive and in a safe place, rejecting media reports about his killing in a U.S. drone strike in January.

"It is a propaganda that our chiefs Hakimullah and Molvi Faqir and other rankers have been killed, they are alive and controlling the movement," said Wali ur Rehman, deputy chief of the Tehrik-e- Taliban Pakistan (TTP), in an audio tape released Thursday.

Wali ur Rehman was in an interview with media at an undisclosed place in the northwestern region of Pakistan bordering Afghanistan. Pakistani army spokesman gave no comments on Rehman's claims.

"The proofs of their presence will be seen soon, with the change of weather, presence of the Taliban leaders will be seen," said Rehman
.

"Seeing the severe attacks by Pakistan Army we have switched our war strategy to launch guerrilla war against the security forces," he added.

Rehman said that the claims by Pakistani authorities on the emerging differences in TTP ranks were baseless and part of propaganda against them.

"Most of the area in the tribal region is still in our control, if the forces have any area in their control then they should let the media come in those areas freely, but they are trying to hide the ground realities," said Rehman.

Hakimullah Mehsud was widely believed to have been killed after allegedly suffering from wounds during a U.S. air strike in January.

Speculation about his death came in media after a Jan. 14 bombing by unmanned U.S. planes in North Waziristan, a northwest Pakistani tribal area bordering Afghanistan, but within days Taliban released two audio statements by Mehsud to prove that he was alive.

The Taliban admitted after the strike that Hakimullah Mehsud was in the Shaktoi area where the U.S. drone attacked, but he had left there about an hour before that.

Hakimullah Mehsud became the TTP chief after his predecessor Baitullah Mehsud was killed in a U.S. missile attack at their strongholds in South Waziristan in August 2009.

Karachi, Feb.9 (ANI): The Orakzai faction of the Taliban on Tuesday confirmed the death of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief Hakeemullah Mehsud, who was believed to have been killed in a US drone attack earlier last month.

According to sources, Hakeemullah was critically injured in the missile hit, and was taken to Karachi from South Waziristan, however, he succumbed to his injuries near Multan.

However, Taliban spokesman Azam Tariq has brushed aside the report, saying Hakeemullah is all right and doing well.

Mystery surrounded Hakeemulla’s death since some media reports suggested that a US drone attack in terror hot bed North Waziristan had killed him.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), however, has been denying its chieftain’s death ever since the missile strike and has also released two audio tapes to claim that the he was alive.

The Pakistan Army said it is still investigating reports which said the extremist chieftain was killed in a US drone attack earlier this month in Taliban stronghold North Waziristan.

Even as the US and Pakistani governments are still to confirm Hakeemullah’s death reports indicate that the banned extremist organisation has appointed its new commander.

According to The New York Times, Maulvi Noor Jamal, a native of the restive Orakzai region, has assumed charge as an acting leader of the TTP. (ANI)

So what were they doing till today. Were they fighting conventional way?? Or this means they will fight more cowardly way.

Anyway thanks for telling us. We'll make sure this mistake don't happen next time. We'll drop some extra bomb to confirm the kill.

.
WTF is that? i thought the b*****rd was dead. hope this is another BS from the taliban side.

.
Does that matter anymore? TTP has been smashed upto our satisfaction already. The remains of TTP are on the run so what is the matter if their new chief is alive yet. When you cut head of a pencil, new one comes out to replace that but the point of satisfaction is that the pencil has been cut short and its only the "head" awaiting to be cut to extinction. Bakre ki ma kab tak khair manaye gi.

Easy dude, get it easy, somebody had got to lead TTP even if he was the last man surviving :D

.
Dead men wont come back..... their successor, being sponsored by RAW, will also be eliminated in same fashion.

. .
let him come out of the ground...we'll send him back 6 feet under inshaAllah....we shall be victors not just in this war but all wars inshaAllah :pakistan:.....let anyone say whatever they want....remember..time will tell :azn:

. .
There is a civil war in TTP ranks over the leadership due to the billions of rupees they have in cash and assets.

The leadership tries to do damage control by issuing such statements and discourage further factions from seeking the seat of TTP leader and also to save face in face of Army assaults.

The TTP facade therefore is due to threats both external and internal in nature.
