An example of how successive power hungry, self centered, short-sighted and bigoted politicians and Generals can bring a nation down to her knees. How the people of Pakistan consider the Army as their savior forgetting that they had an equal if not greater role to play in the demise of everything good that was inherited over that last 70 years.

Retired Army personal running this mill to the ground, how exactly the same people who are responsible for the demise of this Mill are all of sudden going to change its fortunes?

No better offer can made for this asset.

All the public assets are joke to these ruling clowns, they give jobs to their workers who dont know s**t about the public business. Even if the mill is being run by retired Army personal , they were appointed there by civilian Government and they are under pressure to please them .

If Steel mill goes to Army they will run it professionally not hiring every tom dick and harry .

Btw what have we gained by PTCL , they most profitable public asset. we are still waiting for the payments.

It's very important strategic asset and should be expended, upgraded as per current and future requirements, PSM is place which can provide metals which are critical for armed forces and civil works and world may not want to sell them to us.

PSM machinery and finished products are so out dated that even regular industry does not desire them and that is the reason why this venture is not float-able. There are more modern mills functioning in Pakistan now producing better quality product at much lower cost and resource consumption.

Army job is to guard borders, not run commercial enterprises. The venture can privatized which has been attempted without success. Which means either the assets is junk relative to the price being ask or some political elements are meddling.

So everyone is afraid to bring their money into the country..and the issue here again seems to be connected with Pakistani bureaucracy..and general lack of ethics when it comes to doing business

ISLAMABAD: Three successive governments, including the present one, have failed to recover $800 million outstanding payment from the buyer of the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) since April 2006.

In a written reply to a question raised by Dr Arif Alvi of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, the finance ministry informed the National Assembly that the government was persuading Etisalat International Pakistan to release the much-needed foreign exchange.

According to Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, the issue obstructing the payment is transfer of the remaining 43 properties to Etisalat which had to be done by January 2008 as per the original agreement between the government and the buyer.

The government sold 26 per cent PTCL shares to the UAE telecom giant for $2.59 billion with management rights. Etisalat paid $1.799bn and withheld the remaining $799.3.4 million because of the governments’ failure to meet all conditions. Ironically, the governments have been showing the money yet to be recovered in federal budgetary estimates.

Isn't it ironic that it was actually ZAB who brought the PSM through his charismatic diplomacy that first saw Pakistan establishing relations with USSR and China in addition to USA.
He also brought Heavy Mechanical Complex (HMC) and Forge in addition to Pakistan nuclear program.

Russia and China are willing to upgrade PSM to latest tech level but our Governments keep neglecting it and that created current situation.

True Army's job is to protect borders, but when the Govt is incompetent and when Army needs to make its own weapons they do need facilities like PSM to provide them with all the required raw materials.

They should not come to power. They should simply independent of Govt when developing weapons plus Instead of selling this asset to some foreign entity like Jindal's e.t.c its better to give it to Army .
