ISLAMABAD: Pakistan started distributing Pfizer vaccine doses among provinces, as per a report on Geo News.

According to the report, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health, Dr Faisal Sultan said Tuesday that the vaccine doses will be used to inoculate only the immunocompromised.

Speaking about the immunocompromised, Dr Faisal said the Ministry of Health will soon release details pertaining to it on its portal.

How much is each province getting?

The premier's aide said the federal government was distributing 51,000 doses of the vaccine, adding that it had received 106,000 doses of the vaccine via COVAX.

Providing a province-wise breakdown of the distribution, Dr Faisal said Punjab will receive 26,000 doses of the mRNA vaccine while Sindh will get 12,000 doses.

He said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been sent 8,000 doses while Balochistan has been given 2,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

One thousand doses of the Pfizer vaccine will be sent to Islamabad, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, he added.

Dr Faisal said the Pfizer vaccine will be used to inoculate people throughout 15 cities of Pakistan, adding that these cities had ultra-cold freezers.

Last month, more than 100,000 doses of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine arrived in Pakistan through the COVAX facility.

The doses reached Islamabad with the help of UNICEF.

The Pfizer vaccine will be utilised across the country in the ongoing vaccination campaign, said UNICEF.

This was the second shipment to have arrived through the COVAX facility in Pakistan. The first, which arrived on May 8, contained 1,248,400 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

What's the total number of hiv patients in Pakistan?

noone knows - i also wanted to ask that same question.

here it is approx 5 mil. and this was a major concern - between coctail of MDRTB and HIV - it was right mix for the SA variant to pop out from Cape flats.

While the Pfizer vaccines are welcome, why only just over 100,000 doses for Pakistan and BD only?

You would think with the fact that Pfizer will produce 3 billion doses this year then 2-3 million minimum each can be given to countries like this with huge populations in global terms.

Europe and the USA are hoarding the vaccine unnecessarily and they should be more generous in allowing 3rd world to have access to more as they will also ultimately benefit in the end through less infection from abroad.

This is where the Chinese have made a great deal of progress in terms of goodwill gained. Even though initially the pandemic became a negative PR event for China, however, they were able to not only recover but turn it into a massive gain worldwide for their image through good management.

The West has struggled to keep up with China in terms of 'helping' others. They West has been playing catch-up with China in for some time. Be it OBOR or investing in poorer countries.

Yeah, initially it seemed like a race to who will have the first vaccine out but now it turns out what matters is who can actually supply it worldwide first. The Chinese are winning thus far.

Chinese vaccines are not that good and countries like BD are only interested as a last resort.

That's the point, it's not about how good they are but whether or not they are available for purchase in sufficient numbers.

If the West has the best vaccines but isn't providing them to the poorer countries, but the Chinese who have WHO approved vaccines that aren't as good but certainly available, which do you think are better?

My point is the Chinese are gaining a lot of clout by being able to deliver before the West products that are good enough if not the best.

True what you say.

Porblem with UK/West was that they relied on India to produce the AstarZeneca vaccine both for themselves and also the rest of the 3rd world, but Modi messed up and then banned vaccine exports when it is never India's vaccine to ban in the first place.

Who told you this?

This is todays development.

Vaccine like Pfizer which require very high sub freezing temperatures are not really designed for third world countries where most of the population lives in remote rural areas, i.e not practical for majority of world population. Chinese vaccine are much better suited.
