Pakistan stares at fuel shortage, pumps see mile-long queues of cars:

.
Pakistan fuel prices are lowest in region and 1/3 of india
and hence the problems..you need to have enough margins for everyone for system to work

Governance failure.
correct..but nothing knew..we have seen governance failure with respect to oil in times of perfect environment..this is at least an exceptional situation ..

the real question is will the main culprit, i.e oil distribution companies be fined and asked to fix the problem or not.?
this what will be the test of governance..it is not the problem that arise that judge an administration, it is whether they fix it or do something about it

government should act beyond giving farmaans and first determine the practicality of their policies.

sure make another JIT. waste more time

.
Another reason why the government needs to get out of the pricing commodities business and let supply and demand take its course.

well, governments are not magicians..
only failure tells you how to fix the problem..
Pakistan's problem is not "failure" but "failure to fix failures"..

the oil shortage happened several times from 2008-18 was it fixed..nope..problem previously identified were lack of payment to PSO due to its funds diverted to motorways and lack of storage by distribution companies..

this time it could be covid-19 related closure..if thats the csae than nothing could have been done

wrong,
you let tha happen in sugar industry..
supply-demand will only work in truly liberal and developed country..even than price gauging and anti-competition laws have to be strict to punish people..are we there? not even close...

Sugar industry is the effect of cartelisation across decades. You can't simply fix that with supply and demand issues. You'll have to break the cartels first.

exactly, cartels will emerge in Pakistan all over if govt completely steps out of it..it needs to have partial control

You would struggle to find such a post.

You may find one for Xardari cause he beat the system while Nawaz built the system.

Khan should educate himself how the system of governance works in Pakistan rather than wishing well tactics

.
three reasons
1. sudden high demand due to reopening
2. refineries being closed and just reopening due to covid-19
3. govt lax /non enforcement of rules regarding 30 days storage for distribution companies

no.3 is important..let see whetehr the govt cancels their agreement, fine them or do the regular i.e get some kick backs

why?

its just temporary for couple of days in specific regions not all over the country
Thank you , unlike most kids on this forum they did not realize that i wanted genuine answers. I do not troll or even abuse. :)

I didn't say completely step out.
Mechanism could be developed so that we have a MSRP printed on commodities.
