Oh and in 1998 even if we started progress, we couldn't complete it thanks to sanctions that follows after nuclear tests etc.

Finally, our reserves have hit I think highest in Pakjstan history. So to say we took 5b out of reserves means we'd have $24b.

I don't believe in this report, govt cannot get nearly $10 billion (even in loans). When PPP left, reserves were 11-13b. 2 years after they're 19b and govt has also taken out 5b, that's just b.s.

I did not intend to single out Nawaz. I just gave an example. Political Economy is relevant in all countries, societies and political parties. PTI would be doing the same in KPK.

Indeed. But you're wrong to target dams. They benefit everyone.

Your example would be best if one does smaller projects that target specific group of people, even if it's economically sound.

Building a dam is equal or treater than metro in political theatre.

This is called political economy my friend.

Metro gets them vote of urban -semi-educated - brain wash people's votes. They can't thing of future. Starting mega project like this dam is like drinking medicine daily for rest of tenure for PM. Dam will make many people unhappy and that is part and parcel of it. Few needs to sacrifice their ancestral village their home and rest . But it will be good for others.
Government can fix all these but they know entire project will take decades and they will not able to bare fruit of it in terms of vote. Again many of contracts and its payment will happen after 3-4 years , so they might not get pie of it.

It is just very selfies decision from each past and present ruling governments. They can't make upfront and fast money and can't get votes from public on based of it. So let it get screw each time.

Basha Diamer has much more benefits than KBD...Why not build that....It would increase the life of Tarbela Dam by 30 years...Basha reservoir capacity is much more than KBD...Cost of Basha is $14 Billion while Kalabagh is $12 Billion....Not much of cost difference...Annual benefits alone from Basha reservoir is $2 Billion (sale of Electricity not included)...Why not Basha...Why KBD?

Bhasha is under construction. Funds are not coming through, too much corruption, not much government attention. One of those projects i guess. Or maybe due to CPEC and all maybe they will give it some attention. In my opinion Small dams are better, Bhasha will do too.

When people are comparing, today KBD is not that important then bhunji, diameter bhasha and of course dams on river Kabul and river Chenab. Imran Khan played political Stoke by giving statement and now his followers wantbto play on this. In 1998, Punjab did proposed this dam, but was rejected by all three provinces, so clearly it's just a political statement.

Ps: dam should build and construction time of KBD is much shorter as compare to other since everything is available, ideal location for a dam, but Imran Khan isn't interested in this it will be useless to discuss on political statements

Stop fooling yourself, you and me both knows this dam only came up again since Imran Khan can play politics.

For water there should be dams on river Kabul and Chenab, both Punjab and KPK should be building dams on those rivers, most of the water comes from these rivers goes directly into the sea. I proposed extension of warsak dam and its reservoir . and one dam on Chenab river.

No politucal government can go ahead on any plans which has been rejected by 3/4 majority. Musharaf could have done it on the stick but today it is not possible. So energy should go on something possible rather then some Taliban khan's political statements.

Ps: I don't deny the benefit of dams in general and how much KBD is cost effective and short construction time as compare to other dams.
