Almost a quarter of Punjabis have their descent in Kashmir - our Prime Minister included. My family sends money all the time to our relatives in IoK ; this isnt a surpise. I was thinking more of 7-8 billion dollars.

The amount is $5 billion. Do you realize how big that is to send away from an economy like Pakistan?

It shows that our 40% undocumented economy must really be prospering and thriving. Government has promised to continue to regulate our economy by 2018. We can reap tens of billions of dollars, not to mention our growth can surge to a whopping 7-8%.

I suspect part of the 5 billion is for "intelligence work" but the bulk is most likely as payment for re-labelled Indian manufactured goods imported by Pakistani traders through Dubai.

We had this discussion before. I think it is something to do with the trade that goes on between Pakistan and India through Dubai. It is a work around by Pakistani importers who are not allowed to legally buy Indian goods.

Yes about 4 billion is currently routed this way. You are correct in assuming the bulk of this is paid through remitting channels.
