Pakistan selects Chinese VT4 main battle tank

A military analyst, Muzammil Hatami announced the selection of the Norinco VT4 for increasing of Pakistani armoured vehicle fleet.

“VT4 has confirmed for future Pakistan army tank and Alkhalid II main battle tank is in developing phase,” – said Muzammil Hatami during 10th International IDEAS defense exhibition in Karachi, Pakistan.


Nevertheless, the Pakistani military refused to comment on the choice of the Chinese-made VT4 main battle tank (MBT) and asked to wait for an official statement. Despite the fact that the future tank’s tender details kept at a secret, it was reported that Pakistan might procure around 100 MBTs in order to meet the deficiency of MBT production in the country.

Not really.. Why because of the following:

A)VT-4 brings no significant advantage over our AK-I.

AK-II will be our legacy tank like the AK-I.

Trials were held to procure tanks to replace the old Type-85/90IIMs etc & augment upgraded T-80UDs.

I think Pakistan has already tested this tank on field. The results were not satisfactory?

Ak-I vs VT-4 is a generation different. Pls don't spew rubbish. VT-4 is a step above Type96, MBT-2000, T-72..

In which systems? The only difference I see is the added modular/composite armour.

If anything AK-I was an upgrade to AK... with additional ammunition capacity, upgrade to its FCS & Imagery systems,APS etc.. while AK-IIs development progresses..


Perhaps you can post specifications of VT-4?

The whole engine transmission and automatic gearbox of VT-4 is a generation ahead of Soviet style T-72 layout. Power pack are intergrated as one which mean swapping out engine for replacement can be done in less than 45mins vs 6hours.

VT-4 steering are fully automatic. If u know how to drive a auto car. Sure u can drive VT-4 tank. The tank is highly responsive which is critical in combat.

Networking and information sharing is another strong point of VT-4. You know ahead of your enemy position and response a step. The armour of VT-4 is also much thicker (52 tons) supported by 1300hp Chinese domestic engine.

yes during first test but in second retrial VT-4 with number of modifications including engine cleared the trials and there is no news about the retrial of second contender Oplot-tank in Pakistan. As far as primary source is concern Muzammil Hatami is not trustworthy, he is a local reporter having no history on defence related matters and he was part of a team who used to conduct a controversial political show at a controversial news channel

Well whatever the army decides we know its going to be great. Also chinese weapon systems are thr way to the future. Most sophisitcated weapons after united states and israel are made in china. Russia has been replaced.


But i wouldn't take this news to be true just yet. Its not official.

He is not military analyst. And he shared the news without prior approval from authorities.
IDEAS representatives were advised not to reveal anything till official words, I wonder from where he took this news out.

Nevertheless, the Pakistani military refused to comment on the choice of the Chinese-made VT4 main battle tank (MBT) and asked to wait for an official statement.

And this is why we need to keep out self shut.

VT-4 brings no significant advantage over our AK-I.

AK1 performance was embarrassing against VT4.
Its precision was poor in comparison with that of VT4. And AK1 even lost entire track during vertical climb. It was later dragged away by ARV....
